MAINTENANCE WKR I-
Under supervision of the Street and Solid Waste Department Superintendent and/ or Foreman, Maintenance Worker I performs tasks related to functions of the Street and Solid Waste Departments with the majority of duties being in the Solid Waste Division.
Job duties and responsibilities include, but shall not be limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Equipment operations:
Maintenance Worker I, with appropriate training, operates heavy equipment, including front-end loader, skid loader, backhoe, dump trucks, street sweeper, maintainer and sanitation trucks.
Applicant shall be able to work with basic hand tools, power tools, chain saws, weed-eaters and mowing equipment. Applicant will assist with the operation of specialized equipment such as pothole patching machine, brush chipper, brick saws and cutting and welding equipment.
Applicant must be capable of operating equipment and vehicles safely at all times. Allsafety proceduresmustbefollowedatalltimesHigh School diploma or general education degree (GED) is required and a copy must be must be in the applicants personnel file.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Applicant must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally utilizing verbal and written skills is also required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must be capable of acquiring the skills to utilize basic math formulas to calculate volumes and areas when needed to calculate hot mix, rap and concrete quantities needed to perform assigned jobs.
REASONING ABILITY
The Maintenance Worker I shall be capable of logically analyzing situations to make decisions based on experience, knowledge, and education that are beneficial to the City and to public.
He / She shall be capable of recognizing and responding to work related issues as well as health and safety issues concerning employees and the citizens of Canyon.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Some climbing of steps and ladders is required. The employee should possess sound speech and hearing. Complete vision abilities will be required including adequate close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The employee could be required to engage in rigorous physical activity. The employee shall be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Class A CDL driver's license
TOA pesticide applicators license (vector)
TOA herbicide applicators license.
EPA 608 Type I refrigerant recovery certification
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme heat/ cold. The employee is frequently exposed to moving, heavy and mechanical equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to potentially dangerous environments, including but not limited to, cutting, welding, vibration, heights, moving equipment electrical shock, fumes or airborne particles and extreme weather. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud. Duties are also performed frequently in heavy traffic.
