City of Campbell is Hiring a Special Interest Class Instructor - Volleyball Instructor (Part-Time, Temporary) Near Campbell, CA

The Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department seeks an experienced Volleyball Instructor to assist with volleyball instruction for youth ages 8 to 17. The Volleyball Classes for 8 to 17 year olds teach passing, serving, hitting, and defensive drills followed by scrimmages designed to focus on team play. Basic fundamentals and skills are taught in a fun recreational setting. Volleyball classes are held year-round at the Campbell Community Center Main Gym on Friday afternoons from 3:30 to 6:45pm.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Demonstrate and teach the fundamentals of the sport as directed by the lead Instructor, such as offensive and defensive plays and proper methods of setting, blocking, hitting, and serving.
  • Explain the rules of volleyball; officiate and keep score during matches.
  • Assist the lead Instructor in conducting classes, practices, and matches in a safe manner.
  • Assist the lead Instructor in setting up and tearing down equipment, ensuring proper use of equipment and materials, and reporting any facility or equipment issues.
  • Work toward building and teaching good sportsmanship and teamwork.
  • Help with supervision of youth during and after classes.
  • Provide a safe, positive, and fun environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Follow Department guidelines.
  • Represent the City and the Department in a positive and effective manner.
  • Maintain effective communication with supervisor and participants.
  • Two years of coaching experience in the sport of volleyball.
  • Training and experience playing competitive volleyball at collegiate and/or competitive club levels.
  • A working knowledge of volleyball and ability to share that knowledge.
  • Experience coaching varying skill levels.
  • Experience working with youth ages 8 to 17 in a recreation setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide constructive feedback, to motivate participants, and to communicate effectively with participants and supervisor.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position which requires physical dexterity and fitness to demonstrate volleyball moves.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to keep basic records and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Current CPR certification (desired; not required)
