JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of the Pool Swimming Instructor Supervisor is to supervise the swimming instructors and lifeguards, manage and organize aspects of the pool area, and maintain safety within the pool area. The Pool Swimming Instructor Supervisor is responsible for scheduling and supervising instructors, ensuring proper curriculum, monitoring the pool area, speaking with the public, setting-up the pool area, and performing rescue functions. Develops work methods and sequences under general supervision. Performs duties pertaining to Swimming Pool Operations, Safety and Maintenance. Duties may include ensuring the safety of and for the General Public and Pool Staff, Scheduling Staff Hours, Records Keeping, Lifeguard duties and Water Chemistry Control. An employee of this class has extensive public contact, may be responsible for the water chemistry analysis and balance of chemical application to ensure safe swimming water. An employee of this class may be required to do janitorial work, cashier work and to do a variety of administrative duties related to the Learn to Swim Program.

KEY FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Average skills; knowledge of commonly used work routines, rules, procedures, or operations; ability to use specialized equipment
  • Schedules staff hours and supervises the swimming pool staff.
  • Keep all pertinent information on staff members.
  • Tests swimming pool water to analyze water chemistry.
  • Receives cash from patrons, monitors balances and delivers daily deposits.
  • Prepares daily and weekly lesson plans.
  • Monitors and observes the pool area for safety, weather, temperature, and other conditions.
  • Acts as a lifeguard by watching over the swimmers and other patrons to ensure safety.
  • Performs first aid, CPR, and other rescue functions.
  • Sets-up the pool area, brings out equipment, and closes the pool.
  • Cleans the pool deck, facility, restrooms, and other surrounding pool areas.
  • Performs related tasks, as necessary.

Education and Experience

High school graduation or GED

One (1) yr. experience in aquatics or supervisory activities.

Must be at least eighteen (18) years old and be able to work an open schedule.

Will be required to demonstrate swimming skills.

Special Certifications and License

Valid Texas Driver’s License.

Requires valid certifications through the American Red Cross in Lifeguarding, Water Safety Instructor preferred, First-Aid, and CPR-AED for lifeguards or being able to be certified by the first day of lifeguarding or instructing.

Frequent contact with the public or other organizations; interactions may require obtaining cooperation of people; courtesy and tact are required when dealing with moderately difficult or sensitive issues.

Physical Demands

Light physical effort such as standing, lifting, moving, pulling, pushing, etc. Ability to exert up to 35lbs. of force occasionally to move objects.

Responsibility for Equipment and Property

Responsible for assigned equipment/property used outside of office.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to outdoor elements; job often exposes person to physical danger; serious space problems; frequent situations that cause stress and tension in the execution of regular duties.
