Monday thru Thursday 5:15pm to 8:30pm; shifts and hours vary

NATURE OF WORK
This position plans, leads and supervises activities in the Child Care area at the Recreation Center.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Provide a creative environment, assist children in socialization and learning skills; assist in maintaining children's files and comply with policies and procedures.
• Assist in maintaining control of the environment; provide a safe environment for young participants; monitor the safety of activities and facilities; use all required safety equipment, take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to prevent accidents.
• Assist in preparing program materials, equipment and other necessary items; organize related equipment; inspect the equipment to insure safety and cleanliness; may be required to set-up and break-down materials used for instruction.
• Provide a safe and fun environment where both children and parents feel comfortable.
• Responsible for the enforcement of all child care policies, general building policies; required to clean all toys and materials at the end of each shift.
• Responsible for completing and reporting accidents or injuries occurring in the assigned area; completing required forms for each child placed in and removed from the Child Care Room.
• Required to attend meetings as scheduled.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND FORMAL TRAINING
Must be at least 16 years of age. Experience working with children is desirable. Candidate must also pass background check. CPR, First Aid and Universal Precautions required within 60 days of hire.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The candidate must have sufficient strength, agility, stamina and flexibility to move or carry up to 50 pounds, stand, crouch, kneel, bend and stoop while assisting children for long periods of time. The candidate must have adequate hearing and vision in order to discriminate between different sounds, objects, people and colors at near and far distances. Position also requires active participation in swim related activities if needed.
