Starting hiring salary - $17.75 hourly

DEFINITION

For the safety and well being of all participants in the pool area. Enforce all pool rules and oversee the conduct of patrons using the facility. Ensure effective customer service. Maintain or gain the knowledge of swim lessons and ability to teach. Perform general pool maintenance, and administers CPR/ First Aid as needed. This position must work well in group setting/peers and with the public, while providing excellent, respectful customer service and human relations skills, which support the City of Brighton's mission and values.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Works under the supervision of the Aquatic Coordinator, Pool Manager(s) and Head Lifeguard. The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor does not supervise others.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Protects the safety and well being of each person using the Brighton Aquatic facilities. 

No other duty shall jeopardize this primary responsibility. 

Plans, instructs, and supervises lessons.

Uses appropriate techniques to instruct and manage classes. Must be able to manage groups of children of all ages while maintaining a safe and secure environment for all participants. Accountable for whereabouts of children at all times.

Accounts for and maintains all equipment. Reports to Pool Manager and Aquatics Coordinator.

Promptly enforces all rules and regulations. 

Provide CPR and First Aid in an emergency situation and completes annual blood borne pathogen training. 

Performs general pool maintenance.

Attends mandatory in-service training and staff meetings. 

Maintains a clean facility. 

Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must hold a current Ellis & Associate Lifeguard License or American Red Cross lifeguard certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and standard First Aid. WSI or Swim America certifications preferred. Must pass pre-employment practical skills test.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Ability to pass a background check.
