Position: Scorekeeper - Sports Official
Dates: Seasonal employment from January to mid-November
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday varying shifts 6:00pm-10:00pm
Salary: $16.25/hour
Location: Brighton Recreation Center/ Brighton Sport Complex
Nature of Work
The Sports Department provides Adult Sports Officials to keep score of adult softball games Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Adult Sports Officials greet managers, obtain team line-ups, start and end games on time, record information throughout games, and help participants and/or umpires. Various training days prior to the start of each sport are also required to attend.
Essential Duties
Monitors play to oversee the safety of players and ensure?the particular sport’s rules are followed.
Listens to concerns, answers questions and addresses coaches and players in a calm, fair and professional manner.
Immediately reports problems, inappropriate situations or behaviors to the Site Supervisor.?
Receives and carries out instructions.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance.? Secures a substitute if unable to cover scheduled shift and notifies Sport Coordinator of schedule substitutions prior to the change.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
The Adult Sports Official is accountable for attending referee/ scorekeeping training where techniques and specific rules are taught for each sport. The Adult Sports Official also assures that the site is kept neat and clean throughout the day, maintains supplies/equipment and attends staff meetings.
Required Education, Experience and Formal Training
The candidate must be at least 16 years of age. Candidates must also pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of multiple sports such as softball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball. Understanding of basic rules for each sport. Experience working with children and adults.
Physical Requirements
The candidate must have sufficient strength, agility, stamina and flexibility to move or carry up to 50 pounds, stand, crouch, kneel, bend and stoop while assisting children and adults for extended periods of time. The candidate must have adequate hearing and vision in order to discriminate between different sounds, objects, people and colors at near and far distances.
