City of Brenham, TX is Hiring a Maintenance Technician I Near Brenham, TX

Summary

Under close supervision performs a variety of general maintenance and repair work of city buildings and facilities, including routine maintenance to ensure upkeep and safety. The Maintenance Technician I operates various vehicles and equipment, and ensures tools, materials, and vehicles are maintained in good working condition and are available when needed. This position also completes work orders and related reports and documentation.

Starting Pay Rate is: $15.06 per hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs general maintenance and repair of city facilities to ensure upkeep and safety, including general carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, heating/air conditioning, and other mechanical repair work;
  • Responds to service calls, completes work order requests, and related reports, including tracking materials used;
  • Inspects facilities to identify building maintenance needs and communicates needed repairs to the Maintenance Supervisor;
  • Operates and maintains a variety of mechanical tools and equipment such as power saws, sanders, drills, air compressors, paint sprayers, and various other tools required for maintenance work while utilizing necessary PPE to complete the task;
  • Participates in minor repairs to equipment, vehicles, tools, and facilities;
  • Assembles, disassembles, and moves furniture and other objects;
  • Assists with set ups and tear downs of materials and equipment needed for special events;
  • Maintains records and prepares reports of work performed and materials used;
  • In the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency (i.e., flooding, winter storm, etc.), may be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, to support recovery and restoration efforts, and
  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

This is a non-supervisory position.

Education and/or Experience

High school graduation or its equivalent or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge Of

Methods, practices, and equipment used in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, construction and HVAC repair work; safe operation of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repair equipment; safe operation of hand and electrical tools.

Skill/Ability To

Establish and maintain effective working relationships; communicate effectively; operate trade specific equipment and assist others in properly operating equipment; apply safety standards to prevent hazards; estimate materials and labor costs for projects; read and interpret blueprints, manuals, and written instructions; and tolerate occasional adverse working conditions; operate computers.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Texas driver's license.

The employee is required to bend from the waist, crouch or squat, kneel, sit, crawl, climb, twist, and reach with arms and hands. The employee is required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 100 pounds, such as materials and equipment, and must carry, push, and pull materials. The employee must be able to see clearly, with or without vision correction, in close situations, at a distance, and peripherally, and be able to adjust focus.

The employee is exposed to outdoor elements, loud noises, vibrations, and respiratory hazards such as dust, gases, chemicals, and bacteria. The employee is required to perform tedious, exacting work. The work environment may be noisy and distracting.
