The Assistant Superintendent for Parks and Grounds is responsible for supervising crews engaged in grounds maintenance, carpentry, refuse collections, emergency situations, and special events of all City-owned facilities, parks, ball fields, playgrounds, and easement areas. Assists in the daily operations of the division as well as monitoring of MDE permits, and the leaf collection program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or
• Five years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in the related fields of Agronomy, Horticulture, and Arboriculture.
• Experience in landscape, park and ball fields maintenance and development.
• Experience supervising labor-related work
• Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing. Ability to maintain good working relationships with subordinates, peers, and supervisors.
• Basic math and computer skills are required.
• Trains staff in safety and other work-related practices.
• Position responds to off-hours emergency and non-emergency issues, such as snow removal, alarms and fallen trees.
• Certified by MDA for fertilizer and insecticide applications, or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
• Possession of valid CDL issued by state of residence, or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience planning, scheduling, and reviewing the work of labor-related work
• Physical capacity to effectively use and operate various items of office and field equipment.
• Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions and be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification.
• Two years Sports Turf maintenance and development.

SALARY: $68,108 Annually
