City of Blue Springs is Hiring a Marketing Coordinator - Parks & Recreation Near Springs, MO

JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Blue Springs Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a highly self-motivated professional to oversee the departments marketing and communications.. An emphasis is placed on the marketing side of this position as it will coordinate all the Departments social media posts, brochures, video content, newsletters and flyers.

Blue Springs, MO is a suburb of Kansas City, MO sitting on the eastern city limits and is a community of approximately 58,603 residents. The Department has been in the process of offering a wide range of community recreation programs as well as revitalizing parks and facilities over the last four years, investing over $15 million in improvements to current park facilities within the community. In April 2021, residents approved a sales tax dedicated to park improvements, parkland development and operation subsidy. The measure passed with an 80% yes vote, demonstrating the support the community has for the Parks and Recreation Department and the improvements made over the last five years to our program offerings and facilities. Over the next ten years the department will undergo a major transformation investing over $50 million to include the opening of the new Blue Surf Bay aquatic facility, a new 45-acre community park and innovative improvements to playgrounds, trails, shelters, athletic fields, and several other park amenities.

This position will play a vital role in the development and delivery of a strategic marketing plan that promotes the departments programs, improvements and communication strategies to the public through social media, program brochures, fliers and video production. This position also will be responsible for supporting special events such as Mayor’s Tree Lighting, Adult Easter Egg Hunt, July 4th Celebration, Spooky Springs and other special events. The department is seeking someone with a vision of excellence and a desire to be self-motivated to improve marketing and communication strategies to the Blue Springs community.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. This position will be responsible for developing all social media posts, seasonal activity guides , develop program flyer standards, department video content and other marketing aspects as needed. The role will plan and coordinate marketing efforts of the Parks & Recreation Department.

2. Seeks sponsorships for programs and activities.

3. Develops monthly newsletters and proactively seek out additional communication channels.

4. Provide support for special events for the community through promotions, event photography and/or video.

5. Assist other program staff with program flyers, brochures and other print marketing items.

6. Develops, schedules and promotes media content for social media outlets.

7. Responsible for maintaining records and reports.

8. Additional marketing duties as assigned.

The above duties and responsibilities include those tasks, physical and mental requirements, visual requirements, unique physical surroundings and mental/cognitive abilities required to perform the essential elements of the position.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education and Special License(s)/Certifications – CPRP preferred; Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Parks and Recreation or leisure services administration or related field is the minimum educational requirement from an accredited four-year college or university, is preferred; one year of experience is preferred; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

2. Must possess and maintain valid state driver’s license

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to critically problem solve, work independently as well as collaboratively to achieve division and department goals.

Skills – effective verbal and written communication; skill in the effective administration of City and Department policies and procedures; skill in the operation of common office machines; skill in evaluating job applicant qualifications and employee performance.

Competencies – Ability to organize, plan, and direct the work of subordinate staff; ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports; ability to identify trends, program needs, and opportunities within the recreation field; knowledge of recreational and senior programs; knowledge of the principles and practices of recreational program management.

Physical Requirements – Must be able to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear frequently; must be able to frequently use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or office machines; must be able to frequently reach with hands and arms; must be able to occasionally life, move, push, pull, or transport up to 50 pounds at least 25 feet; must have close vision and the ability to adjust focus frequently. Most work is performed in a modern office setting, which is usually moderately quiet; other work is performed in various aquatic, athletic, recreational, or performing arts settings where noise levels are frequently moderate to loud, and occasionally loud.

Supervisory Responsibility – supervision to assigned professional, clerical, and volunteer staff.

Experience – One-year experience preferred in business marketing, social media, parks and recreation and / or advertising.
