Virtual Interviews are scheduled for June 10th and 11th. Secondary, in-person interviews are scheduled for June 14th.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Bellevue Youth Theatre’s (BYT) mission is to provide recreational opportunities in the performing arts for all young people regardless of income or ability, including opportunities to perform before a live audience.

BYT is a youth development program that uses theatre productions as a means to develop self-esteem, confidence, and leadership skills.

The theatre has a rich tradition of creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for people living with disabilities.

Additionally, BYT provides the community with quality theatre productions which are both entertaining and relevant for the entire family.

The recreational programs at BYT offer 10 - 12 mainstage productions each year where everyone who auditions is cast in a role, as well as summer and school break day camps and additional workshops and classes.

In addition to direct service provision, the theatre is available for community rentals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Oversees daily operations of Bellevue Youth Theatre with special attention to facility and production management. Job duties involve staff supervision, administrative tasks, program development, and facility management including the management of all theatre hard goods : scenic, lights, props, etc.

Coordinates and leads technical theater staff and volunteers, including volunteer designers. Collaborates with other City of Bellevue community centers and may assist with technical support of city events.

Oversees facility rentals, upkeep, and maintenance. Develops, plans, and implements programming aimed at youth development, community engagement, and inclusion.

  • Oversees facility use and rental program. Oversees equipment maintenance, repairs, and upkeep. Advises prospective rentals on technical capabilities of theatre space.
  • Reviews policies, procedures, and fees for community rentals, and exercises management of rental program.
  • Develops, plans, promotes, implements, and reviews a wide range of inclusive youth development theatrical arts programs for all age groups with a focus on day camps, teen programs, and adaptive recreation
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises participants, part-time staff, volunteers, instructors, designers, and contractors involved in programs.
  • Monitors program, staff, and / or facility budgets and tracks revenue and expenditures; writes funding requests and miscellaneous proposals.
  • Develops presentation and promotional materials, with attention to graphics such as video display, projections, and streaming graphics.
  • Writes memos, briefs, contracts, and other correspondence as needed.
  • Interacts with other service providers, sponsors, and City personnel on projects and programs. Advises and consults with City on audio / visual support for special events.

Supervision Received and Exercised :

  • Works under the general supervision of the BYT Community Services Supervisor.
  • May exercise supervision over temporary / seasonal employees, volunteers, or support staff, as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

  • Considerable knowledge of theatre operating procedures and educational / recreational theatre programming.
  • Skill in public speaking and customer service, communicating with diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate and work with a broad and varied population, including youth and adults with disabilities.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures to ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience in theatrical carpentry, electrics (lighting / sound), and theatre facility management preferred.
  • Knowledge of theatrical technologies including Qlab, Dante, Rio, OBS (Streaming), ETC and EOS lighting preferred.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in the humanities, theatre, education, or related field(s) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Four or more years of progressively responsible related experience in theatre performing arts, human / social services, programming recreation activities or a related area.
  • Experience with theatre arts and the technical aspects of theatrical production
  • Experience in public service, including education and / or non-profit work preferred.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

HOURS / SCHEDULE

The schedule varies based on the theatre’s programming needs. This position’s core work schedule is typically Monday through Friday, but will often include early mornings, evenings, and weekends during main stage productions, summer camps, and rentals.

The position shares opening and closing shifts and facility coverage with other FTE staff.
