City of Bedford is Hiring a Crew Chief - Utility (Water Supply) Near Bedford, TX

SUMMARY

Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in maintaining, repairing, installing, and relocating of water distribution and wastewater collection facilities by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Directs and supervises workers engaged in maintenance, repairs or improvements of the water distribution system and wastewater collection system.
  1. Determines material and equipment such as type and size of pipe, fittings, and unions, trenching and backfill equipment required to complete the project according to size, nature, and condition of the project.
  1. Direct workers and assist with the replacement of concrete sidewalks and drive approaches that are damaged from water and wastewater line repairs.
  1. Oversees other workers and may personally operate various equipment such as backhoes, trucks, trenchers, high pressure sewer cleaning trucks, camera truck and equipment, and tractors.
  1. Creates and receives work orders through the work order system. Enters completed data into the system to close the request in a timely manner.
  1. Performs equipment repairs and preventative maintenance for all assigned equipment.
  1. Inspects projects to evaluate progress and satisfactory completion of a project, ensures conformance to specifications and compliance to safety requirements.
  1. Answers questions and inquiries from the public regarding relevant aspects of the Water and Wastewater Divisions.
  1. Maintains required daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
  1. Follows and enforces City policies and enforces worker and job site safety regulations.
  1. Assists in development of maintenance and repair strategies throughout the water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  1. Assists other Divisions of the Public Works Department as needed, including standby and emergency call back.
  1. Will perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.
  1. Regular and timely attendance is required as well as the ability to get along with others in a professional and cordial manner.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees in the particular area of responsibility. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recommending employee rewards and discipline; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma / GED and three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement.
  • Possession of TCEQ Class C Water Distribution License.
  • Possession of a TCEQ Class II Wastewater Collection License.
  • Possession of a Work Zone Traffic Control certification.

Preferred:

  • TCEQ Class B Water Distribution License.
  • TCEQ Class III Wastewater Collection License.
  • Optional: Ability to obtain a Class C Groundwater Treatment Operator License within one (1) year of hire.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

SPECIALIZED KSA’S

Working knowledge of municipal infrastructure and ability to read and understand engineering plans and plats. Demonstrated ability to operate trenching and back fill equipment and to perform routine equipment maintenance. Must have or be able to complete a confined space training.

The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock. The employee regularly works in confined spaces and in trenches. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
