City of Bedford is Hiring an Animal Control Officer Near Bedford, TX

SUMMARYEnforces animal related City ordinances and provides services to protect the public's health safety and welfare by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Responds to calls for assistance and/or citizen complaints by operating a city vehicle and utilizing the police radio and emergency equipment.
  1. Patrols the city and takes appropriate measures to bring compliance with city ordinances.
  1. Impounds stray and owner-released animals. Traps wildlife that poses a nuisance or risk to the public. Provides efficient, caring humane treatment to all animals under their care and control.
  1. Completes required reports, and maintains records in accordance with city policy and state law.
  1. Ensures the proper and legal disposition of animals through owner claims, adoptions, and transfers to humane organizations.
  1. Provides humane euthanasia under the direction of the Animal Control Supervisor for animals: deemed non-adoptable; that pose a threat to the health and safety of the citizens or their pets; or when necessary to prevent prolonged suffering to animals that are ill or injured.
  1. Cleans and maintains the animal shelter, shelter equipment, and vehicles.
  1. May be required to appear and testify in court regarding animal-related cases.
  1. Provides the public with shelter tours, educational programs and general safety information.
  1. Performs radio dispatch for Animal Control Division, as needed.
  1. May perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.
  1. Regular and timely attendance is required as well as the ability to get along with others in a professional manner.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma / GED required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Must be able to achieve the following certifications: Must be able to obtain the basic certification in Animal Control and also Euthanasia Certification within 12 months of employment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

SPECIALIZED KSA'S

Must have knowledge of the use and application of computer software relevant to this position. Must have working knowledge of the City ordinances and codes pertaining to animal control. Must have basic skill in handling equipment used to capture and impound animals.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up 10 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally assist in lifting and/or moving more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
