City of Beaumont, Texas is Hiring an Equipment Coordinator - Streets Near Beaumont, TX

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions: Operates all of the following heavy-duty equipment used in Streets & Drainage construction, has the knowledge and ability to repair, maintain and troubleshoot for: bulldozer, backhoe, oil distributor, asphalt lay-down machine, water truck, 2–14-yard dump truck, road grader, excavator, roller, and Gradall. Must have a clear understanding of motor’s hydraulic systems, air brake systems and electrical systems. Must have knowledge and ability to make repairs on small tools, power tools and small engines such as welding machine, pressure washer, chop saws, jack hammers and generators. Will train lower personnel.

Other Job Functions:
Responds during emergency situations; interacts with citizens, maintains detailed daily reports, maintenance reports and inspection reports. Responds to all equipment breakdowns at any time. Working Conditions

Works outdoors in all types of weather; exposed to extreme cold, heat and temperature swings; exposed to extreme and constant noise; works in trenches and ditches; exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards, explosions, fumes, odors, dust, mites, chemicals, and gas vapors. Works Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, works overtime when necessary. Considered as an essential employee; subject to 24-hour call out in emergency situations.

Minimum Essential Qualifications

Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of the operating characteristic and servicing of one or more types of assigned equipment; considerable knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in the operation of assigned equipment; knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with the operation of assigned equipment; knowledge of welding/burning procedures and techniques.

Skills/Abilities:
Skill in the operation and servicing of assigned equipment; ability to operate equipment safely and skillfully in and around traffic, construction sites and work areas; ability to operate welding and burning equipment; ability to fabricate; ability to make minor operating adjustments and repairs and to recognize operations deficiencies in assigned equipment; ability to perform manual labor; ability to read blueprints; ability to lead a small work crew; ability to read and write and to follow oral and written instructions; ability to make mathematical calculations and complete necessary paperwork; ability to interact with the public.

Physical Requirements:
Constantly drives; frequently uses calculator, carries objects weighing up to 20 lbs.; climbs, sits, stands, twists body and walks; infrequently cleans, crawls, holds objects, weighing up to 10lbs.; kneels, lifts objects weighing up to 90 lbs.; pulls and pushes objects weighing up to 30 lbs.; squats, stoops and writes by hand.

Education/Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent supplemented by general mechanic certifications or courses. General Mechanic Certificate of competency preferred. Must have a combination of five (5) years’ experience in the operation and servicing of various equipment used in heavy construction.

Must possess a valid Texas Class B-CDL driver’s license with a good driving record; Texas Class A-CDL driver’s license preferred. Other state valid Driver’s License equivalent to Texas Class A or B with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver’s license. Must obtain a Class A-CDL within six (6) months of employment. Applicant selected for hire will be subject to a background investigation and drug/alcohol screen test.
