City of Battle Creek is Hiring an Airport Operations/Maint. Tech. Near Battle Creek, MI

Performs semi-skilled work supporting operational and safety compliance activities, maintaining airport grounds and facilities, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work performed under the limited supervision of the Airport Operations Manager. 
  • Performs visual inspections, routine maintenance, and manual labor in maintaining all airport runways, taxiways, safety areas, grounds, fences, drainage, facilities, gates, pavement, lighting, and fixed structures.
  • Completes and maintains work records to include complaint resolution, maintenance and repair logs, vehicle repair logs, daily inspection logs, Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), FAA records and other related documentation.
  • Provides assistance during safety related or aircraft incidents or emergencies; participates in snow removal and ice control monitoring and removal activities.
  • Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment and tools in clean and operable condition and facilities in good repair.
  • Under supervision, troubleshoots, installs, replaces or adjusts electrical fixtures such as outlets and runway/taxiway lights, generators and related parts, electrical repair, and light bulbs.
  • Reviews operational condition and maintenance records of facility and automotive equipment and reports, and assists with needed maintenance or repair.
  • Under supervision, operates power driven heavy and field equipment and small tools to maintain grounds and facilities including herbicide application, landscaping, welding, grading, earth work and clearing drainage waterways. Operates a variety of tools and equipment used in general mechanical, electrical repair and maintenance work.
  • Performs semi-skilled work in building maintenance activities and equipment operations for all airport property; under supervision, makes general repairs to hangars, plumbing, windows, drains, sprinklers, HVAC and other building systems, perform rough carpentry and masonry work, install and repair fencing and roofing and paint as needed.
  • Monitors environmental conditions, including wildlife and hazardous materials, and provides appropriate response.
  • Under supervision, perform pavement maintenance including paint striping and patching.
  • May interact with tenants and operators to inform and coordinate operational and maintenance outages or planned activity; responds to routine requests, questions and/or complaints.
  • Participates as appropriate in ensuring that tenants, control tower, consultants and contractors are following safe and correct maintenance procedures.
  • Orders parts/materials as required, prepares records and reports to ensure proper inventory control.
  • Performs general custodial duties in the care of maintenance facilities and airport buildings.
  • Performs special projects assigned by the Operations Manager.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 year experience in facilities and grounds maintenance operating equipment such as small tools, mowers and light/medium trucks.
  • Recent experience in an airport environment preferred.
  • Federal fingerprint based criminal history background check required.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, bending, reaching, hand dexterity (grasping, holding, keyboarding, repetitive movements), reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, seeing (near and/or far, color, depth, field of vision), hearing, using the telephone, contact with government officials and the general public, working overtime, and working inside and alone. Work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to the risk of electrical shock, working with explosives and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus; work is generally in a very loud noise location (e.g. jack hammer work, garbage recycle plant).
