City of Azusa is Hiring a Transportation Dispatcher (Part-time) Near Azusa, CA

The Community Resources Department is currently seeking two (2) Part-Time Transportation Dispatchers!

SALARY INFORMATION
$24.98 - $30.36 Hourly

A written exam will be administered for this position. Applicants invited to participate in the written exam will be given a minimum five (5) business days notice.

A CURRENT TYPING CERTIFICATE (WITHIN THE LAST 12 MONTHS) VERIFYING A NET TYPING SPEED OF 35 NET WPM IN A 5-MINUTE TEST MUST BE ATTACHED AT TIME OF APPLICATION.
CANDIDATES WHO FAIL TO PROVIDE A TYPING CERTIFICATE ALONG WITH THEIR ONLINE APPLICATION WILL BE IMMEDIATELY DISQUALIFIED.
The Typing Certification may be in the form of a certificate, letter, or test results form and must clearly state the following:
  • Your name
  • Name of the issuing agency. (Agencies acceptable are a government agency, a temporary employment agency, a business college, an adult school, or a public school system)
  • The date of your test. The test must be dated within 1 year of the final filing date of the recruitment
  • Gross typing speed, errors and net typing speed of the test. The minimum net typing requirements for these positions are stated on the job announcement.
  • Length of Test. 5 minute typing test must be indicated on the certificate

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, assigns bus drivers to vehicles and routes in accordance with established route schedules; assigns replacement buses; coordinates bus repairs with City equipment maintenance; performs a variety of related cashiering and clerical tasks. See Essential Functions below for further detail.
The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Assigns bus drivers to vehicles and routes following established procedures and in accordance with established route schedules; assists with scheduling of Gold Line Shuttle and demand response passengers; adjusts assignments for absent drivers; designs routes and schedules; dispatches bus drivers and maintains radio contact with buses.
Performs a wide variety of clerical duties including, but not limited to, answering a multi-line phone, receiving and sorting mail, data entry, and typing correspondence. 
Responds to customer inquiries and provides information regarding system schedules, fares, para-transit service, and related details; schedules Gold Line Shuttle and demand response transportation services.
Initiates and maintains a variety of records, including, but not limited to, logs, bus driver time records, daily hours and miles records, and injury reports as required, according to established procedure.
May respond to the activation of the City's emergency operation center by assisting in the coordination of transportation for emergency personnel, resources, equipment and supplies as needed.
May need to report to a bus accident scene and assist the bus driver in the preparation of accident reports. Provides instruction and guidance to relief dispatchers and bus drivers regarding established policy or procedure; assists in training bus drivers; performs driver road checks as assigned.
Collects, counts, and deposits fares and donations.
 
Performs a wide variety of clerical duties including answering a multi-line phone system, data entry, and file and records maintenance.
 
Performs related duties as required.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
These are position functions which may be changed, deleted, or reassigned to accommodate an individual with a disability.
Education and/or Experience
Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance. Example combinations include the equivalent to the completion of high school, supplemented by specialized training in communications or a related field, and one to two years of experience in terminal operations, and increasing responsibility in communications, dispatch, or clerical work.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of transportation needs and operational issues of the program, including, but not limited to, methods and techniques of delivering public transportation services to Gold Line passengers, seniors and disabled persons certified under the ADA; methods and techniques of dispatching commercial passenger vehicles; general office procedures including use of computer and utilizing a variety of software programs; terminal office operations and record keeping practices;; applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, requirements, and regulations governing public transportation for seniors and individuals certified under the ADA.
Ability to schedule and dispatch bus drivers; work independently to maintain terminal operations in the absence of the Transportation Supervisor; keep accurate records; respond to emergency and problem situations in an effective manner; operate a mobile radio unit; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; communicate clearly and effectively with the public in person and over the phone, using correct English spelling, grammar and punctuation; apply policies and procedures; understand and follow verbal and written directions; work independently; operate a two-way radio system; operate a computer, with a typing speed of 35 net words per minute (wpm), and utilize a variety of software programs; perform simple mathematical computations.
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required. Possession of a valid Class B California driver's license with Passenger endorsements and no restrictions on the weight of vehicle permitted to drive or the number of passengers permitted to carry is highly desirable. Valid First Aid and CPR certifications are highly desirable. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
Physical Conditions
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 25 pounds); to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard with a typing speed of 35 net wpm; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Environmental Conditions
Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting; incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends from time-to-time.
