City of Avondale is Hiring a Pool Manager Near Avondale, AZ

The City of Avondale is currently seeking a Pool Manager in the Avondale Parks & Recreation Department. This is a temporary position expected to work during the aquatic season. This position is open continuously. First review of applications will be conducted on Monday, January 29th, 2024.
Manages the daily operations of the City’s Aquatics Center including associated aquatics programs. Incumbents determine staffing necessary for pool activities, including preparing work schedules, duty station assignments, monitoring staff time, and adjusting staffing and/or duty locations to fit the needs of the Center.
 
This position is temporary, typically lasting no longer than six (6) months in duration. The operational needs of the Avondale Aquatic Center will be frequently monitored to determine the duration of this assignment.
All candidates are required to undergo a comprehensive background check and pre-employment drug test. Successful completion of these processes is mandatory before an offer of employment is extended. Additionally, candidates for this position may be subject to participation in random drug testing.
This position requires you to have a high school diploma or GED equivalency.Supervises and evaluates staff during the aquatics season. Determines staff necessary for the supervision of pool activities, including preparing work schedules and assigning personnel to duty stations, observing pool attendance, adding, or shifting Lifeguards to ensure proper coverage, and overseeing and monitoring employee’s timekeeping.
Directs staff activities including cleaning, general operation, and maintenance of pool facilities. Monitors staff performance to identify deficiency and work in conjunction with Parks and Recreation leadership and Human Resources to determine appropriate action.
Teaches courses in Lifeguard training and water safety instruction, trains volunteers on operations, conducts swimming lessons, and maintains records related to the training.
Assists with the implementation of special events and ensures proper customer service. Resolves customer complaints when received in conjunction with the Aquatics Manager.
Reviews and provides recommendations to Parks and Recreation leadership related to policies and procedures, programs, and solutions to other problems involving the facility. 
Inspects pool equipment and overall facility equipment to ensure safe operating equipment and to identify potential hazards. Replenishes supplies as needed to ensure operational continuity.
Reviews and guides reports associated with accidents. Conducts reports on daily patron admissions and revenue, sanitary water conditions (chlorine and pH readings), water backwashing, and rescues and assists. 
Rescues patrons in distress including approaching, and carrying people, which requires removal of patrons from the water who may weigh from 50 – 300 pounds.
Directs staff while the facility’s emergency action plan is activated and acts as the lead contact during emergencies. Monitors and responds to alarms related to chlorine leaks, fires, etc., and implements the appropriate response for emergencies.
Performs cash handling procedures such as collecting fees for programs, services, or commodities, and maintains applicable records. Opens and closes registers while documenting overages and shortages and prepares deposits for review.
Performs other duties as assigned. A Valid Lifeguard Certification, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for Professional Rescuer Certification, and Swim Lesson Instructor (SLI) Certification, or equivalent by date of hire.
 
A High School Diploma or equivalency is required. 
One (1) year of experience as a lifeguard or swim instructor is required. 
At least three (3) months of experience in directing activities in a public swimming pool setting.Learning job-related material and reviewing updated policies and procedures, guidelines, rules and regulations, and other articles related to operations.
Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages.
Ability to prepare, write, and edit professional documents related to the activities and operation of the aquatic center.
This position has no supervisory or organizational control responsibilities. 
Must be able to work with employees, citizens, students, or participants in accordance with Parks and Recreation policies and procedures. 
Communicate effectively with staff and the public. Tactfully enforcing pool safety and educating the public on safe pool conduct. Act quickly in response to emergencies. Guide patrons of all ages participating in swimming and/or diving instruction.
Work requires the functioning as a manager performing essentially the same work as those directed and includes overseeing the work quality, training, instructing, and scheduling work.
This position has no budgetary responsibilities besides monitoring the daily revenue of the facility and ensuring appropriate cash handling by staff.
