Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business, Public Administration, or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years’ experience in maintenance and/or operations, two (2) years of which were in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Experience or education may be substituted up to a maximum of four (4) years.
Licenses or Certifications:
  • Valid Class C Texas Drivers License.

The Transportation Supervisor will be an integral part of the Parking Enterprise Division. This position will report directly to the Parking Enterprise Manager and will be responsible for the direct supervision of three enforcement supervisors, ranging from Ground Transportation to Parking Enforcement.
This position will report directly to the Enforcement Services Manager and shall be responsible for overseeing operations and planning of parking and curb management under the Parking Enterprise Division of the Transportation Public Works Department
The Transportation Supervisor will plan, organize, and supervise the daily activities and operations of parking and curb management staff, including engineering, planning, project coordination, contract oversight, and data management to ensure compliance with City policies, regulations, local transportation ordinances, and state law governing all aspects of parking and curb management.

Driving Requirement:
This position requires a Valid Class “C” Texas Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

Pay Range
$31.81 – $39.76
Hours
Day shift: Monday through Friday typically from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Night shift: Wednesday through Saturday from 1:30 pm to midnight

  • Writing citations or filing municipal court documents.
  • Operating complex computer applications or technology.
  • Developing standard operating procedures.
  • Developing and providing training on parking laws and citation issuance to division employees and other agencies.
  • Investigating complaints on parking enforcement officers and providing responses to affected parties, taking corrective action as warranted.
  • Responding to City Council and executive level requests (CAFs).
  • Managing budget and proposing purchases and other expenditures to meet division mission.
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) and customer service skills to handle and resolve difficult customer issues and requests.
  • Excellent supervisory skills to handle and resolve employee issues up to and including employee counseling and terminations.
  • Using Microsoft Office to write reports, conduct analysis, respond to customer service requests by email, and must be able to learn parking enforcement software and train staff.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  • Manages the activities of transportation enterprise operations to include various permitted or non-permitted uses of public rights of way.
  • Coordinates operations of the division with other city divisions, departments or outside entities to ensure City of Austin transportation enterprise operations are maintained.
  • Develops and evaluates short and long range strategies, goals, and action plans to meet business needs.
  • Ensures that traffic operations comply with city ordinances, state and federal laws.
  • Makes recommendations to management on budget development and expenditures, short and long term programs and enterprise initiatives.
  • Monitors and ensures section operates within appropriated enterprise transportation budget.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for enterprise transportation operations.
  • Prepares, presents and communicates information to a variety of audiences including the public, city boards, and City Council.
  • Ensures operations of division are met by managing section with changes to equipment, budget and personnel to meet department needs. Ensures the identification and delivery of all appropriate safety training.
  • Prepares and reviews reports as part of the process of monitoring and communicating section performance results.
  • Recommends major purchases and expenditures, develops specifications for product, price, and services to be received.
