Full-time Firefighter - Paramedic
Company Overview: The Auburn Hills Fire Department (AHFD) originated as a volunteer fire department in 1942 serving what was then Pontiac Township. Members of the Fire Department fight fires, provide emergency medical treatment and rescue people from dangerous situations. Our engines, ladders, and ambulances are housed out of our three strategically placed fire stations. We provide fire protection and advanced life support EMS service for over 24,000 residents over 17.4 square miles. Due to the heavy industrial/commercial makeup of our city, the day time population can rise to over 100,000 people. The department responds to over 4,000 calls annually.
AHFD is currently ranked Class 2 for their Public Protection Classification (PPC) as concluded by a third-party evaluation by the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO). This classification puts the Auburn Hills Fire Department in the top 2% of all fire departments across the state. AHFD is continually working to improve the City's ISO rating by improving fire suppression services and departmental effectiveness to create a safer community for all.
General Purpose: Protects life and property by performing firefighting, emergency medical services, hazardous materials and fire prevention duties. Maintains fire equipment, apparatus and facilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
(A) Knowledge of fire suppression and prevention principles, procedures, techniques and equipment; knowledge of Emergency Medical Services procedures, techniques, principals and equipment.
(B) Skill in the operation of the listed tools and equipment.
(C) Ability to apply standard firefighting and EMS techniques to specific situations.
(D) Ability to perform strenuous or peak physical effort during emergency, training, or station maintenance activities for prolonged periods of time under conditions of extreme heights, intense heat, cold or smoke.
(E) Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
(F) Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
(G) Ability to establish effective working relationships with coworkers, other agencies and the general public.
(H) And ability to act effectively in emergency and stressful situations.
