City of Arlington is Hiring a School Violence Prevention Program Coordinator Near Arlington, TX

Under general direction, this position will be a member of, and the liaison for the Arlington Police Department, the multidisciplinary threat assessment team for the Arlington Independent School District. This includes working with the School Resource Officer Sergeants on referred students and on any action needed. The SVPP Coordinator will also collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary threat assessment team including members of the Arlington Independent School District and MHMR Tarrant County.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. The ability to work under the direction of the Youth Services Commander to effectively assist in the creation of the multidisciplinary threat assessment team’s policies and procedures, effectively communicate the police department’s polices and procedures in reference to AISD student discipline, and ensure seamless communication with the School Resource Officers and Sergeants.

2. The ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with APD’s partner agencies, the Arlington Independent School District and MHMR Tarrant County, as well as, additional community organizations.

3. The ability to plan, organize and facilitate community and collaboration meetings with the Youth Services unit, members of the multidisciplinary team and other outside stakeholders as needed.

4. Ability to lead administrative functions of APD’s part of the multidisciplinary team, including data collection to assist quarterly grant reporting. Maintains records on the multidisciplinary team as needed.

5. The ability to interact with school age youth, from pre-kindergarten through high school, and their parents or guardians, in a professional manner when discussing interventions of the multidisciplinary team.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

6. Ability to work in partnership with existing citywide programs and partnerships and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, youth and families.

7. Ability to implement goals and objectives of the School Violence Prevention Program and the AISD multidisciplinary threat assessment team; ability to prepare and evaluate statistics reports as required; and ability to evaluate and report on the quality and impact of the multidisciplinary team’s work.

8. Ability to assist the Grant Coordinator in programmatic reporting.

9. Ability to interact as needed with local, County, State and Federal officials and laws makers to promote the multidisciplinary threat assessment team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Knowledge of the techniques of methods to plan, coordinate and monitor program initiatives and partners.

Knowledge of marketing and promotional strategies.

Knowledge of current trends relative to Department of Justice School Violence Prevention Program.

Skill in developing various oral and written reports.

Skill in managing multiple tasks.

Skill in maintaining the flexibility necessary to meet the needs of resource limited organizations.

Skill in understanding and managing groups of differing cultural backgrounds and ages.

Skill in communicating by oral and written means.

Skill in political awareness.

Skill in community capacity building and developing consensus regarding broad issues.

Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and manage complex projects.

Qualifying Education and Experience:

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Social Work, Education, Counseling/Psychology, or related field, plus 2 years related work experience. Master’s Degree Preferred. Experience working with a Police Department and in a public-school environment a plus. Possession of a valid Texas Operator’s License, Class C, with good driving record required.
