City of Appleton, WI is Hiring an Operations Clerk Near Appleton, WI

This is a full time benefited manual labor position responsible for providing cleaning and custodial services for the library. Primary duties include maintaining clean and sanitary conditions throughout the library and providing support services for library staff. Work is performed under the supervision of the Library Building Supervisor.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Communicating with staff and the public.
  • Performing a variety of cleaning duties such as cleaning restrooms, vacuuming and shampooing carpets and furniture, mopping entry floors and stairwells, waxing floors, washing windows, emptying trash, stocking restrooms, and dusting.
  • Setting up meeting rooms and assisting meeting room users.
  • Cleaning light fixtures and bulbs.
  • Cleaning and maintaining of atrium.
  • Stocking of cleaning and general library supplies.
  • Cleaning staff work areas and offices.
  • Opening and occasionally closing building at end of day and arming fire and motion detection alarms.
  • Working in a support capacity with other library staff.
  • Setting up, taking down, and/or moving library shelving.
  • Assisting with delivery and storage of materials and/or supplies to library staff.
  • Assisting with deliveries to and storing of cleaning and other supplies in the library.
  • Assisting with installation of cables for network equipment.
  • Facilitate work done in Library by vendors or other city departments such as Facilities Management as needed.
  • Perform routine safety inspection of Library and resolve problems as appropriate.
  • Monitor library environment during course of regular duties and report issues to proper authority.
  • Keeping staff and patron entrances free of snow and ice.
  • Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, works overtime and extra hours as required.

Typical Qualifications

This position requires primarily customer service and janitorial experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:

  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with other employees and to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
  • Knowledge of basic janitorial methods and procedures.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to operate janitorial equipment such as scrubbers, buffers, and vacuums.
  • Knowledge of the types of and uses for materials, solvents and standard equipment used in general cleaning and minor upkeep of buildings and grounds.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and apply good judgment.
  • Ability to operate computer programs and retrieve email.
  • Ability to climb ladders and lift heavy loads.
