City of Anaheim is Hiring an Ambulance Operator (PT/FT) Near Anaheim, CA

Anaheim Fire & Rescue seeks Ambulance Operators (Full Time & Part Time) to provide emergency ambulance transport services and basic first aid assistance during medical response calls and standby events. Ambulance Operators will safely drive an ambulance and other vehicles during emergency and non-emergency situations while providing assistance to Paramedics and other Anaheim Fire and Rescue staff as needed. The City seeks career-minded individuals with long-term interest in becoming Firefighters or Firefighter Paramedics with the Anaheim Fire & Rescue Department.
Candidates must possess a 1) high school diploma or equivalent, 2) valid California Driver’s License with valid Ambulance Driver certification, 3) California EMT-1 certificate, and 4) current CPR card. College level courses in Fire Technology or graduation from a California Fire Academy is preferred. Required documents, such as a license or certificate, must be uploaded to the online application at the time of filing.
Availability:
Full Time Ambulance Operators work rotating 24-hour shifts, for an average of 56 hours per week. The standard shift is 24 hours with one to multiple days off in between. Employees are expected to regularly work overtime.
Part Time Ambulance Operators work an on-call schedule and are required to work at least four (4) shifts per month. Shifts can range from 24 hours or less and are typically scheduled two (2) weeks in advance. The expectation is that Part Time Ambulance Operators move into full time positions as vacancies occur.
This recruitment will result in an eligibility list to fill both full time and part time vacancies.
The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may
be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Operate city-owned ambulances and other department vehicles as directed, drive to and from medical emergencies as part of the ambulance transportation team.
Drive ambulance or other department vehicle during non-emergency situations.
Perform appropriate basic EMT-1 field procedures including attaining and documenting vital signs, bandaging, splinting,
lifting patients into ambulance and assisting paramedics as directed. Accurate documentation of patient care on ePCR.
Maintain and inventory basic emergency ambulance supplies, equipment and routine vehicle parts.
Operate within Federal, State, and local laws, regulations and guidelines including the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act.
Attend and successfully complete department and hospital training sessions and drills.
Participate in station and equipment clean-up, and assist in maintaining city vehicles and fire department facilities.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A
typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Experience and Education: No direct work experience is required; experience as a volunteer or direct employment in fire service or emergency response preferred. Education requires high school graduation or equivalent; college level courses in Fire Technology or graduation from a California Fire Academy is preferred.
Knowledgof: Principles of emergency ambulance and transportation procedures including first aid, resuscitator, and gurney operations; safe emergency work practices; applicable Federal, State, local regulations, practices and procedures; infectious control procedures; emergency radio communication procedures; basic medical terminology and documentation; and emergency vehicle maintenance and operation.
Ability to: Read electronic and incident maps and follow map directions; work effectively in difficult and hazardous emergency situations and environments and carry out work assignments as instructed; safely and properly transport patients during ambulance transportation; follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively with the public and
fellow employees.
License/Certification Required: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License with valid Ambulance Driver certification,
and possession of a valid California EMT-1 certificate with current CPR card.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
Additional Requirements: Full Time Ambulance Operators may be assigned to work at a Fire Station on rotating 24-hour shifts, for an average of 56 hours per week. Employees are expected to regularly work overtime. Part Time Ambulance Operators may be assigned to work at a Fire Station on rotating 24-hour shifts on a limited or intermittent basis.
Employment Status (Full Time & Part Time): Ambulance Operators are at-will employees working under limited-term assignments. Limited-term assignments are for a maximum of three (3) years, and applies separately to full time and part
time service.
This recruitment will result in an eligibility list to fill both full time and part time vacancies.
