NATURE OF WORK
Specialized customer service with clerical work in maintaining fiscal accounts, involves responsibility for maintaining fiscal accounts and the receipt of payments. Work of this class requires the operation of electronic cash registers, pc, adding machines, as well as other standard office machines. Work is performed according to established procedures, although employees are expected to perform standard tasks with independence. Work is performed under general supervision and is subject to checks for accuracy through internal control and independent audits. It is extremely critical that employees in this class have good people and phone skills and the ability to handle citizens with tact and diplomacy.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIRED
General educational level (typically high school diploma or equivalent) plus specialized coursework (e.g., bookkeeper, typing, business, vocational training, etc.). 1-2 years of customer service and responsible clerical work in directly or closely related fields.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Basic work experience required; proficiency of tasks beyond entry level; usually six months to one year.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
No supervisory responsibility required.
SCOPE OF POSITION
Responsible for own work. May exercise some indirect control over expenses and/or revenues. Works independently on assigned duties.
Job requires ability to exchange technical information with staff of other organizations, including internal and external customers, and/or the general public.
Majority of problems are solved by referring to policies, procedures, regulations or supervisors.
Knowledge of departmental operating policies and procedures to answer inquiries and respond to complaints.
Requires technical knowledge, required body of knowledge can be acquired in less than 6 months.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical surroundings are pleasant and comfortable, with little or no exposure to injury or other health hazard. Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry twenty pounds or greater on occasion.
