City of Alhambra is Hiring a Librarian I (Part-Time) Near Alhambra, CA

  • This is a part-time position at 20 hours per work week and assigned at the Alhambra Civic Center Library.* Candidates must be available to work a 20-hr workweek with one of the below schedules: Monday to Thursday 11:00 am - 8:00 pmFriday and Saturday 10:00am - 5:00 pmSunday 12:00 pm - 5:00 pmUnder general supervision, the position of Librarian I performs complex library work, may manage the activities of a unit of library services, and performs a wide range of professional services, including, but not limited to: reference and reading guidance for adults; materials selection; program planning and presentation; community outreach.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Offers specialized professional assistance to patrons at public service desks; answers factual ready reference questions as well as in-depth research requests; assists patrons in the effective use of library materials and equipment; participates in collection development including maintenance of assigned subject area. In addition to the above primary responsibilities, librarian shares with other reference librarians specifically assigned duties such as preparation of subject bibliographies, public relations brochures, maintenance of reference files and indexes. Cross training in all public service areas will be required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Possession of a California Driver's License.SELECTION PROCESS: Applicants must complete an application online prior to the final filing date. Applications will be screened for qualifications, appropriate background, and only the most qualified will be invited to participate in the examination process. Successful candidates must achieve a minimum passing score in each of the test components. Applicants will be notified by e-mail as to the test date, time and location. The examination process will include: Oral interview weighted at 100% Candidates will be required to pass a City administered pre-employment physical and may be required to pass a thorough background investigation and polygraph examination as a part of the selection process. Candidates who do not pass will be disqualified and removed from the eligibility list.ACCOMMODATION: Applicants with legal disabilities who require special testing arrangements must contact the Human Resources Department at least five (5) business days prior to the examination date.
