City of Albany and Dougherty County, GA is Hiring a Materials Specialist Supervisor Near Albany, GA

The Position

The purpose of this classification is to purchase, issue, and maintain materials, parts, and equipment inventory and all records for vehicles repaired by Fleet Management and other departments. This position is also responsible for supervising four (4) Material Specialists in their daily duties under the supervision of the Fleet Superintendent.

Duties

Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals; provides training as needed.
Oversees the purchasing of materials, supplies, parts, and other equipment; enter related reports and receipts into the proper data system; prints and transmits to appropriate personnel; reviews and receives invoice; disperse parts, supplies, and equipment.
Administers catalog researches; consults with vendors, procurement personnel, and other city departments to discuss new products, solicit bids, analyze bids/quotes, provide information, or receive advice/directions.
Directs and coordinates inventory control and maintenance tasks for expendable materials; perform inspections, physical counts, purging obsolete inventory, stocking shelves, rotating and pulling parts, re-ordering of stock as needed.
Oversees and coordinates the return of damaged or warranty parts as needed; may service parts per request or forward to appropriate individual for repair.
Analyzes and recommends approval on monthly accounting reports, inventory lists, data sheets, fuel usage reports and other reports in managing storeroom.
Defines the space layout requirements and numbering system for the auto parts storerooms.
Prepares a variety of reports, specifications, field purchase orders, credit memoranda, vouchers, requisitions, forms, logs, and related documents; maintains files, updates, and/or forwards to appropriate department or individual.
Plans and implements training for employees in the operation of materials handling equipment; coordinates/conducts training for employees in the proper care and preservation of items received or stored.
Receives, prepares or completes a variety of invoices, quotes, reports, lists, purchase orders, contracts, memoranda, and related documents; reviews, files, posts, processes, and/or forwards to appropriate department or individual.
Monitors and evaluates vendor performance, service, and merchandise; compares competitive products for research and use; makes recommendations regarding vendors and/or products.
Answers telephones, takes messages, and provides quotes as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises four (4) employees in the Central Services Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; additionally, three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
