The expansion included the sugar beet industry's growth, which brought new residents whose descendants still live here today, including Mexican-American families from southern Colorado, New Mexico, and northern Mexico, as well as Germans from Russia. Since 1879, Fort Collins has been the home of the state’s land grant institution, Colorado State University, which currently enrolls 34,000 students. Along with the university, the city’s major high-tech and manufacturing companies and breweries attract new residents from all over the country and world. The community’s overall social diversity continues to grow.

There are abundant outdoor recreation opportunities available to the many residents who enjoy healthy lifestyles. The nearby Horsetooth Reservoir is a key attraction, as is the Cache La Poudre-North Park Scenic Byway. The Downtown district provides many venues for live music, shopping, dining, and nightlife within the city. Fort Collins is widely considered the Craft Beer Capital of Colorado. Job Summary

The Mediation and Restorative Justice programs are looking for an individual to perform work related to the planning, organizing, implementation and coordination of Mediation and Restorative Justice programs and activities with a focus on volunteer management, community outreach, education and program support services relating to Mediation and Restorative Justice and volunteer management programs and policies.
In addition to the information included in the job description the following items are specific to the Public Engagement Specialist role for Mediation and Restorative Justice programs:
Additional duties and responsibilities:
  • Provides program support services for Mediation and Restorative Justice programs, including scheduling and facilitating Restorative Justice conferences/meetings and Mediations; case management services for Mediation and Restorative Justice cases.
  • Manage internal and external outreach for all Mediation and Restorative Justice Programs.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge, training and experience in Mediation and Restorative Justice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience facilitating conflict situations such as mediations and restorative justice conferences.
  • Knowledge of the justice system preferred.
  • Knowledge of the impact of trauma on people, communities and conflict preferred.
  • Knowledge/training on standards for Mediators and Restorative Justice Facilitators preferred
The successful candidate will be required to obtain the following within 6 months of hire date if they have not already been obtained:
  • 40-hour Mediation Training Certificate
  • Restorative Justice Facilitator Training Certificate

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements programs to educate community members and stakeholders about City strategies and resources.
  • Creates educational activities and lesson plans that reflect a variety of program delivery models.
  • Schedules and conducts public education and outreach to diverse audiences.
  • Plans, leads and evaluates activities for diverse audiences including presentations, events, workshops, classes, and business outreach.
  • Prepares, designs, disseminates and evaluates audience-appropriate messaging, materials, and related marketing, educational and informational campaigns.
  • Creates, administers, and maintains strategic sponsorships and partnerships to foster an engaged community.
  • Manages stakeholders for effective relationships with community groups, organizations, neighborhoods, and internal City departments.
  • Provides support and advice on community engagement techniques that lead to the successful implementation of processes, projects or programs.
  • Meets deadlines and uses time, materials, and resources efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Researches and resolves complex disputes and operations problems based on stakeholder engagement techniques.
  • Supports internal City work teams by assisting with development and implementation of outreach strategies, engagement activities, and focused messaging.
  • Coordinates volunteers including recruitment, placing, training, retention activities, project supervision and logistics, safety, recognition, communication and evaluation. Creates policies and programs to manage and support volunteers in partnership with the Citywide Volunteer Program Manager.
  • May manage grant projects including tracking funding and reporting.
  • Uses appropriate safety practices.
  • Maintains equipment and inventory and prepares supplies for activities.
  • Collects, compiles and reports program data and survey results.
  • Assists with work planning, budget preparation and record-keeping.
  • May actively solicit, write, and manage grants in partnership with City Grants Development Specialist.
  • May direct the work of interns or volunteers.

Required Education

MINIMUM/PREFERRED
EDUCATION LEVEL
Minimum
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a related degree.

Experience Requirements

  • At least three (3) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
