City of Commerce City is Hiring a Recreation Supervisor – Facilities Near Commerce, CO

Hiring salary is dependent upon experience.
The hiring range for this position is $31.0946 - $38.8682/hour ($64,677 - $80,846/annual).
 

Under the direction of the Recreation Superintendent Operations, the Recreation Supervisor – Facilities is responsible for the oversight of operations and management of two multi-use recreational facilities, Bison Ridge Recreation Center and Eagle Pointe Recreation Center. This is a safety-sensitive position, exercising a high degree of discretion, trust and confidence responsible for administrative, supervisory and professional work within the Recreation Centers.

  • Serves as a professional ambassador of the Department and City by maintaining a professional image, a team-based collaborative approach & a high level of internal and external customer service
  • Develops strategic division goals and objectives to support Department's mission
  • Provides sound fiscal (including budget development and accountability) and risk management responsibility to the Division and Department
  • Formulates and prescribes work methods and procedures, training and professional development to be followed by work group, and takes necessary steps to improve operations
  • Demonstrates considerable knowledge of the recreational and leisure time needs of a diverse community and special populations, and of the equipment, space and the resources necessary to provide the successful fulfillment of such needs
  • Observes necessary precautions to assure general public safety; inspects facilities and program areas for safety and maintenance needs by conduction facility walk-throughs on an on-going systematic basis and reports/oversees maintenance repairs
  • Evaluates, develops and/or changes policies, procedures, and methods for operations of two multi-use recreation facilities (Bison Ridge at 108,000 sq ft and Eagle Pointe at 77,000 sq ft)
  • Leads budget preparation and management of revenues and expenses associated with both recreational facilities, to ensure strong financial performance
  • Sets work priorities and oversees professional staff, setting procedures that require staff to provide top notch customer service
  • Sets work priorities for building attendant staff in custodial tasks for maintaining both recreation facilities
  • Performs ongoing evaluation of center operations and programs to identify community needs and recommends appropriate operational changes, as well as program modifications to the recreation superintendent
  • Demonstrate leadership by making or supporting decisions that reflect the organizational mission and goals even when the decision may be unpopular to some
  • Exhibits collaboration and conflict resolution skills with other departments and employees

Performs other projects and duties as assigned

Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field required and three to five years progressively responsible experience in facility operations; program coordination; recreation planning; and supervision, orientation and training of subordinate staff required. Bilingual in Spanish and Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP) is preferred. Must possess current CPR and First Aid certificate or be able to obtain within three months of hire. Must have a valid Colorado driver's license and good driving record.

  • Develops and monitors program budgets based on program needs, staffing salaries and supplies
  • Makes long-range plans for future program growth and expansion
  • Directs and supervises special events to ensure organization and quality
  • Ability to use independent judgment and decision-making within established policies
  • Solid knowledge in the use of equipment in the completion of daily activities
  • Skill in performing mathematical calculations, basic principles of algebra and geometry, and estimating time and weight
  • Ability to handle sensitive or stressful situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to work long, irregular hours when necessary
  • Driving: May need, or have ability, to drive a city or personal vehicle in the normal course of business
  • Office Equipment: Daily use of computer, keyboard, copier, scanner, printer, calculator, phone (desk and cell). Daily use of software programs including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Other Equipment: Cleaning supplies, stereo, first aid equipment, camera, variety of recreation tools and equipment
  • Physical Activities: Light physical activity that may include walking, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying
  • Lifting: Ability to lift, carry, and exert up to 40 pounds
  • Vision and Hearing: Must have visual acuity to see and read paper and electronic documents. Ability to differentiate between type styles and sizes, colors and shades of color. Must be able to answer telephones, communicate conversation and respond to verbal inquires.
  • Exposure to Environmental Conditions: May be exposed to extreme heat, cold, dry, wet, odors, smoke, loud noises, vibrations, dust or intense light, and biohazards
  • Schedule: Position generally scheduled Monday - Friday; occasionally weekend work. May require attendance at evening meetings or after-hour events
