Position Description
City College of San Francisco seeks part time instructor(s) to teach plumbing and steam fitting apprenticeship courses as part of our apprenticeship programs.
Job Duties
1. Instruct apprenticeship level and apprenticeship related journey level courses in one or more of the following areas:
Plumber
Steamfitter
2. Instruct student apprentices and/or journey persons in all phases of the trade including current and new trade practices, trouble-shooting problems, applicable codes, and safety.
3. Teach day, evening, and/or weekend classes at one or more sites in-person as required.
4. Perform duties associated with instructing and assessing student progress including, but not limit to, demonstration of skills, structuring and supervising student manipulative practice, planning lessons, and grading.
5. Complete required record keeping tasks such as submitting attendance, grades or student learning outcome reports in a timely manner.
6. Identify and develop instructional materials including, but not limited to, course and assignment information, samples of tools and materials, and instructional handouts.
7. Supports and engages in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.
8. Participates in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy.
9. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).
2. Possession of an associate degree from an accredited institution, plus four years of occupational experience in the subject matter area to be taught;
OR
Six years of occupational experience, a journeyman’s certificate in the subject matter area to be taught, and completion of at least eighteen (18) semester units of degree applicable college level course work from an accredited institution, in addition to apprenticeship credits;
OR
A high school diploma; and six years of occupational experience in the occupation to be taught, including at least two years at the journeyman level; and sixty clock hours or four semester units in materials, methods, and evaluation of instruction. This last requirement may be satisfied concurrently during the first year of employment as an apprenticeship instructor.
OR
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in the appropriate subject area (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990).

Desirable Qualifications
1. Four years of journeyperson experience in the trade or in an area of expertise required for training apprentices and journeypersons.
2. Experience with codes applicable to the courses that instructor will be teaching.
3. Specialized and advance training in the trade or subject areas taught in apprentice and journey program.
4. Experience working with apprentices in the appropriate trade.
5. Experience teaching trade apprentices.
6. Knowledge of current and new trade practices.
7. Evidence of successful instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy.
8. Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students.
