Job DescriptionSan Francisco Public Works is searching for exceptional candidates to fill this exciting and critical position to serve as the City & County of San Francisco County Surveyor. In this role, you will deliver specialized support services for the Department of Public Works. Your responsibilities include leading your team’s activities, strategic planning, development, and execution. Additionally, you will oversee all mapping division processes and subdivision projects. The role is crucial to the creation of new neighborhoods and the remaking of old ones in the City & County of San Francisco
As County Surveyor, you shall possess the same power in the City and County in making surveys, plats and certificates as is or may be given by law to county surveyors as needed. The official acts and all plats, surveys and certificates of the County Surveyor shall have the same validity and be of the same force and effect as are or may be given by law to those of county surveyors.
Essential Duties:
As the County Surveyor, your duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Engineering, Surveying, Geomatics, Mapping, Architecture, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
Four (4) years of managerial experience in the engineering and, or the survey/mapping field, of which all Four (4) years must include experience supervising survey parties and, or engineers.

Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the required education. One (1) year (2,000 hours) of additional qualifying experience will be considered equivalent to 30 semester units/45 quarter units.
CONDITION(S) OF EMPLOYMENT
*Civil Engineering License: Per the Professional Land Surveyors’ Act, Civil Engineering licenses must have been obtained before 1982 to be qualified.
*Valid Driver’s License: Applicants must possess a valid California Class C driver’s license with no restrictions that would prohibit them from legally performing the essential functions and duties of the role.

SELECTION PROCEDURE/EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS
After application submission, candidates deemed qualified must complete all subsequent steps to advance in this selection process, which includes the following:
Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ)(Weight: Qualifying):
Candidates will be required to complete a MQSQ as part of the employment application. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.
Supplemental Questionnaire (Weight 100%):
Candidates deemed qualified will be invited to participate in an examination designed to measure their relative knowledge, skills and abilities in job-related areas, which may include, but not be limited to: knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations in the areas of the job; management ability, supervisory ability, problem-solving ability, analytical ability, interpersonal ability and written communication ability.
Note : Candidates must achieve a passing score on the Supplemental Questionnaire examination to be ranked on the eligible list.
Eligible List/Score Report:
Once you pass the exam, you will be placed on an eligible list and given a score and a rank. The duration of the eligible list will be six (6) months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
Certification:
The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this exam will be the “Rule of the List”.
Post-Eligible List:
Candidates will be invited to interview based on test scores and experience that most closely matches the responsibilities of the position determined from a review of the application materials.
