Calling all Hawaii State Certified Journey-Worker Electricians!
Are you currently registered with the State of Hawaii as a Journey Level Electrician and tired of installing, maintaining and repairing electrical wires? Do you want to ensure that other electricians are performing their job duties? Come and work for the City and County of Honolulu, Department of Planning and Permitting, Electrical Code Branch, Inspection Section as an Assistant Electrical Inspector. You will be responsible for inspecting and testing electrical, sound, and communication systems and other recognized electrical licensing specialty work for compliance with plans and specifications, electrical codes, and other pertinent ordinances and accepted safety standards. If that is too easy for you, you will also assist with complex inspections in high-rise buildings and/or industrial use electrical systems as needed.
Just make sure you have a personal vehicle to travel from site to site (will be reimbursed for mileage). You must be able to operate a ground-fault interrupter tester, cell phone, laptop, digital camera, and desktop computer.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Three (3) years of experience in inspecting or supervising electrical installation work.
Such experience must demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of the general and specialty electrical codes of
    • the City and County of Honolulu;
    • the National Electrical Codes;
    • building and safety codes, and
    • other pertinent ordinances pertaining to electrical and electronic installations;
  • Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, processes, materials, and tools of the electrical trade and their application to electrical wiring and equipment installations on residential, commercial, and industrial premises; and
  • Knowledge of basic principles of electrical engineering applicable to electrical appliances and wiring installations.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Current Hawaii State journey or supervising level electrician's license, at the time of application.
Verification Requirement: You must submit a copy of your Hawaii State journey or supervising electrician's license. Please attach an electronic copy of your journey or supervising electrician's license to your application; or mail or drop off a photocopy to: Department of Human Resources, 650 South King Street, 10th Floor, Honolulu, HI 96813.
2. Valid appropriate driver's license (Type 3/automobile), prior to appointment.
