Cirrus Aircraft is Hiring an Industrial Designer Near Duluth, MN

Description

The Industrial Designer is responsible for the conceptual design, ergonomics, aesthetics, production cost, usability, and functionality of products. This role will also help in design and integration support for interior furnishings and seat systems for general aviation aircraft, as part of the Equipment and Furnishings Team in Cirrus Product Development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to translate aesthetic design vision into cost effective, producible products. Proficient with selection of color, material, and finishes.
  • Consult with stake holders to understand design requirements, and research various use cases for the product and intended audience.
  • Coordinate with interior suppliers and internal Cirrus stakeholders to create consistent industrial design methods, milestones, and requirements, for delivery of consistent / standardized output to downstream customers.
  • Create visual representations for design ideas using sketches or computer renderings to convey an idea or design to stakeholders for consideration in a clear and understandable manner. Execute Visual Brand Language (VBL) within Cirrus guidelines.
  • Advanced ability to conceptualize, refine, and present concepts and vision through sketching, rendering, model-making, and prototyping. Experience using 3D Printing and Clay modeling in full- and sub-scale mockups is desired.
  • Have a specialization in comfort, ergonomics, and have experience taking feedback from internal and external customers as part of an iterative design process.
  • Provide industrial design guidance to integrated teams to design aircraft interior products across all models.
  • Support the development of design requirements, processes, project plans, and activities required to design and certify aircraft interiors and furnishings.
  • Work within the team to design detail parts, assemblies, and installations of interiors, seating, and monuments. Experience using PTC Creo or other CAD software is desired, but not required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 4-year degree in Industrial Design, or other associated field.
  • 6 years progressive design experience required.
  • Experience in consumer product design, or aviation and/or automotive seating and interiors preferred.
  • Product portfolio containing realized, cost-effective, and manufactured product is required.
  • Working knowledge of aircraft, marine, or automotive interior materials and manufacturing processes is highly desired.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAID, tools. Prefer experience with Adobe CS, Autodesk Alias, Rhino, or 3DS ICEM Surf. Class A surfacing experience a plus.
  • Working knowledge of CAD and PDM/PLM and collaboration tools desired. Familiarity with PTC Creo, PTC Windchill PDM, or Atlassian JIRA tools is a plus.
  • Class A surfacing in CAID or CAD considered a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, SharePoint / Teams).
