Job Summary: Responsible for providing students with individual career transition services, and work-based learning opportunities, in compliance with DOL, Job Corps and center polices and procedures.

Duties:

  • Provide classroom instruction and activities to ensure students are prepared to enter the workplace and live independently.
  • Develop a career transition plan for assigned students and monitor the progress of assigned students.
  • Assist assigned students with individual career selection and assess student workplace readiness; provide labor market information on geographic areas of interest.
  • Responsible for assisting, planning and conducting community relations programs designed to create and maintain favorable public relations for the Center and its students.
  • Provides support for enhancing student employability, ensuring continued participation in the Job Corps program and the administration of MyPACE Career Plan.
  • Becomes active in the employment community (employers, labor unions, apprenticeship programs, military recruiters, advanced training programs, community colleges, etc.) to further the Center's WBL and placement goals.
  • Maintain ongoing communications with work based learning providers, schedule periodic visits to work-sites and evaluate work-sites.
  • Assists in establishing WBL and HB-WBL sites, transportation and related services.
  • Monitor work-based learning sites regularly for quality training and effectiveness of delivery of services to students. Secure employer evaluations. Document monitoring visits and safety evaluation of work sites.
  • Conducts WBL site safety inspections prior to assigning students to a WBL location.
  • Identify potential jobs, schools, military or other training program career development for separating graduates.
  • Coordinate and maintain communication with other departments pertaining to student career transition.
  • Conduct job development and establish linkages with state contractors as well as employers to assist with job placement activities.
  • Participate on student evaluation panels; prepare required documentation and evaluations using CIS, as well as other systems of documentation. 
  • Enter case notes into the CIS system as required and in accordance with established timelines.
  • Document and record work-based learning assignments and progress in center information system (CIS).
  • Mentors, monitors and models the Career Success Standards. 
  • Adheres to required property controls policies and procedures.
  • Maintains good housekeeping in all areas and complies with safety practices.
  • Complies with all DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulations, Job Corps notices and bulletins, and Center policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the individuals’ scope and capabilities.

Requirements

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Above average public speaking skills and experience in same; above average verbal and written skills; above average problem solving and conflict resolution skills; computer literacy specifically Internet, Email, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; ability to work evening hours and periodic weekends; ability to travel periodically. 

Education: Associate Degree preferred. Direct experience may be considered in lieu of education requirements.

Experience: Two-years related experience working with youth preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid State Driver’s License.
