Job Summary:
The surgical suite technologist, under the guidance of the perioperative nurse, is responsible for the care and safety of the patients who come under his or her care. The surgical suite technologist is responsible for ensuring effective communications between him/herself, the circulating nurse, the patient, other staff and physicians. By anticipating the needs of the surgeon, the surgical suite technologist provides assistance while maintaining an aseptic and safe surgical environment.
Education, Training and Experience:
High school graduate. Demonstrates ability to scrub surgical procedures through technician program or on the job training. Trained in sterilization process. Demonstrates ability to provide quality patient care. Communicates and works efficiently with people. CPR Certification required.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Lengthy periods of standing. Move gurneys, carts, and equipment. Assist in positioning of surgical patients. Carry and lift instrument sets (trays) and various types of equipment. Exposure to anesthetic gases, hazardous chemicals, blood and body fluids, sharps, and hospital-grade cleaning solutions. For physical demands of position, including vision, hearing, repetitive motion and environment, reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position without compromising client care.
