CIC is Hiring an Innovation Research Manager - CIC Captains of Innovation - Cambridge, MA Near Cambridge, MA

CIC Captains of Innovation (COI) seeks a dynamic, seasoned, creative, and energetic individual to join our team as Innovation Research Manager. The Innovation Research Manager will lead and deliver bespoke qualitative research projects on behalf of COI’s client portfolio – primarily global corporations and growth companies working to innovate their business models and find new technologies to disrupt their industries or avoid disruption. A strong candidate will have a proven record of professional success and management experience, with a robust background in research and excellent writing skills.
The Innovation Research Manager will work with the Director of Implementation and manage a team of Innovation Researchers to provide high-quality, personalized, and thoughtful service to our clients.

COI – CIC’s internal boutique consultancy – is a full spectrum corporate innovation program designed to help large organizations find new products, services, business models, and technologies in today’s global hyper-competitive environment.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY WORK
This person will be a member of the COI staff and report to the Director of Implementation.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Managing a growing team of part-time Innovation Researchers.
Delivering high-quality, qualitative, bespoke research to COI’s corporate clients.
Liaising between clients, COI staff, and Innovation Researchers about client needs, progress, and expectations for their research projects. 
Directing and writing substantial innovation-centric research projects on a wide variety of topics across sectors, ranging from short briefs to 100 page strategy, trend, and position papers; integrating qualitative research prepared by a team of researchers and fully aligning them to ensure reports are polished, commanding, cogent, comprehensive, and consistently meet brand standards. 
Overseeing research communications and transparently communicating all work with each client, including milestones, concerns, and successes, while maintaining strong independent work ownership.
Demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the client’s business, products, and services along with the broader industry, particularly related to client objectives.
Conducting fast, high-quality, confidential research and large-scale global innovation ecosystem analysis on a variety of topics and industries.
Working with external implementation partners to exceed intended outcomes and results. External implementation partners play a vital role in the health and success of the COI program. Identifying, building, maintaining, and supporting these partnerships is a key role of this position.
ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate will possess the following characteristics:
A talented researcher with a strong passion for startups, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
A natural leader who is personable, happy to help others, and drawn to a very busy, continually-evolving environment. Ability to work well as part of a small (but mighty!) team, and support and guide a team of Innovation Researchers, some of whom work remotely.
An independent worker and self-starter with a strong work ethic.
Passion and willingness to both learn and teach; a love for problem-solving and comfort working with ambiguity.
Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to translate business goals into program delivery and services. Skilled listener who ensures clients are heard.
Experience and ease working with companies of various sizes, cultures, and native languages, and ability to shift approach based on the needs and workstyle of the client.
Effective speaker, writer, and presenter, with a sharp eye for grammar, style, and narrative flow in qualitative reports.
Commitment to view their work as mission-based and an opportunity to make a powerful contribution to a larger effort.
Strong relationship with technology; Mac and CRM proficiency required
YOU HAVE
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
At least 3-5 years of relevant professional experience
A strong writing and editing background
A demonstrated ability to lead and author innovation-centric research projects
A passion for accelerating corporate innovation
A natural interest for helping/supporting others
Ability to travel ≤10% of the time, as needed, at various times of the year
