Student Minister

Position Objective : To provide pastoral leadership to the student ministry of First Montgomery.

Position Description : The Student Minister will be the leader of all student activities. Although the Senior Pastor provides the overall vision and direction for all ministries in the church, including students, the Student Minister will oversee and coordinate all the details of every event involving the students.

The Student Minister must be a visionary who is creative in leading people to God. The Student Minister is a leader who can communicate a direction in a way that inspires those around him / her to join in the pursuit of that vision.

This position is a ministerial one that therefore requires the individual to serve not solely as minister to students but also as a shepherd to the people who serve in this ministry.

The Student Minister is a full-time, ministerial position that reports directly to the Senior Pastor.

Qualifications :

• A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a vital, growing personal relationship with Him.
• Commitment to moral purity.
• Commitment to the mission, vision, and worship philosophy of First Montgomery.
• Demonstrated excellence as a student leader, i.e. has grown a student ministry over the past few years.

Abilities :

• A pastor as well as a teacher and administrator.
• A heart for the spiritual formation of those in the student ministry as students, volunteers, and parents.
• Relational skills and an enthusiastic presence for leading a student group.
• Skilled in organization, administration, and interpersonal relationships.
• Skilled in the use of technology through social media, computers, graphic design, video editing, photography, and video projection.
• A self-starter
• A team player with a positive attitude.

Responsibilities :

• Maintain an authentic and growing walk with Jesus Christ through the ongoing spiritual disciplines of Bible reading, prayer, personal worship, missions, and fellowship.
• Build the necessary teams to carry out the student ministry goals of First Montgomery.
• Plan the numerous and varied student events of First Montgomery in consultation with the pastor, and do so with prayer, conceptual forethought, theological accuracy, and appropriateness.
• Serve at all student events.
• Maintain office hours as agreed upon with the pastor.
• Provide pastoral care for the student teams.
• Participate in pastoral and hospital visitation as assigned.
• Participate in church outreach programs, including encouragement and leadership of members in outreach.
• Introduce our student teams and parents to training provided by other ministries, books, websites and conferences.
• Plan and implement student Sunday school, student Wednesday night activities, major seasonal events, student camp, D-Now, outreach events, and other events as assigned by the pastor.
• Oversee the student ministry budget, organization, and volunteers.
• To work closely with the pastor ensure the student ministry supports the overall mission of the church.
• Maintain healthy growth of the student group, meeting or exceeding the growth rate agreed upon with the pastor.
• Perform other responsibilities as determined by the Senior Pastor.
• Promote unity within the church by exercising Biblical conflict resolution practices, fostering unity within the student group, deescalating conflict, and loving & protecting First Montgomery.
• Refrain from public criticism of other staff members.
• Refrain from any activity that might harm First Montgomery, the staff, or the congregation.
