Collaborates with other staff members in the performance of duties. Complies with all established standards and practices. How You’ll Do It: Provide basic and advanced life support treatment, care and evaluation of patients. Interview patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patients' charts. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition and treatment, as appropriate. Initiate and implement interventions based on protocols. Assists with treatments and tests ordered by provider as supervised by provider or registered nurse as necessary. Performs select clinical duties after demonstration of clinical competency and in accordance with hospital and professional scope of practice. Identify, intervene, and stabilize the ill or injured patient under the direction, and in collaboration with a physician and/or Registered Nurse. Collaborate with the nursing and provider teams to provide specific care such as protocol medication administration, patient reassessment, breathing treatments and suctioning support, peripheral IV placement, diagnosis and acuity specific discharge teaching. Requirements: Currently licensed as a Basic EMT, Advanced EMT or Paramedic in the state of Wisconsin OR Medical Assistant Certification. Current CPR certification – Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required. Successful completion of a state approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), or Paramedic program or course, or graduate of Medical Assistant Program (Clinical Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, or Registered Medical Assistant) High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED). One year experience in Pediatrics, Emergency Department or Urgent Care preferred. Schedule Details: Must be available for either 10 hour (1500-0130) or 12 hour shifts (1900-0730 or 0700-1930) must be able to commit to hours if working in addition to school or another job. Orientation in the department will be full time on day shift for the first 2-4 weeks depending on prior experience. Unit Description: The Emergency Department/Trauma Center provides emergency health care for children and adolescents up until their 18th birthday who present for care.. Emergency care is provided for all types of illnesses and injuries, 24 hours a day. The severity of illness and injury varies and is defined by the Triage guidelines as non-urgent, urgent, and emergent. 54% of all inpatient admissions will come from the EDTC, which is 17% of all EDTC patients.
