JOB SUMMARY:

The Driver provides transportation to residents for doctor's appointments, shopping, and/or errands. The Driver will rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. The individual in this position will be paid a reimbursement allowance for use of his/her cellular phone or other mobile communication device when the device is deemed essential to the performance of the employee's duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Operates multi-passenger vehicles scheduled for individual, group or special purposes.
• Responsible for providing safe, reliable, courteous and efficient transportation service for our residents to various locations within the area.
• Provides assistance in walking to and from the entrance of the origin and destination for those passengers requiring help. Assists with frail, handicapped, infirm and disoriented passengers averaging in weight between 100 and 250 pounds.
• Monitor passengers in entering and exiting the vehicle, assist in finding seats, securing seat belts and securing packages or other articles carried onto the vehicle.
• Monitors the loading and unloading of wheelchair bound passengers which includes, but is not limited to pushing, tilting, lifting and supporting the wheelchair during entering and exiting the vehicle.
• Records and reports daily passenger and vehicle data (mileage, conditions, etc.) as provided via the Driver's manifest; Accounts for each passenger when picked up from drop-off location(s).
• Drives vehicle according to all applicable laws and ordinances; assures a smooth, comfortable and safe ride for all passengers.
• Drives in a courteous and safe manner so people who see the Christopher Homes, Inc. signage on the vehicle will have a positive image of the Company.
• Complies with directions from Property Manager regarding route and vehicle assignment.
• Notifies the Property Manager of departure for each trip.
• Notifies Property Manager of any problem riders, difficulties/delays or when leaving vehicle to provide assistance or for personal reasons.
• Performs daily pre-trip inspection on assigned vehicle and reports any problems or damage to the Property Manager.
• Keeps vehicle clean; does not eat or smoke in vehicle; water allowed in sealed, plastic, thermos-type container/jug, secured in vehicle.
• Cleans interior of vehicle as needed.; Clean interior & exterior weekly (floor, windows, seats, & wash exterior of bus)
• Refuels vehicles at end of each day.
• Is responsible for securing the vehicle and locking all doors at the end of the trip; returns vehicle keys to office at close of business each day.
• Immediately reports any accidents involving riders/vehicles or vehicle malfunctions; follows with a written report. Stays at site until police arrive as per accident procedures and completes any required reports as required.
• Wears employee ID badge at all times, especially, when working with passengers.
• In the event there are no scheduled trips, helps maintain property by cleaning building and perform light maintenance at the property.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Property Manager.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced & ministry oriented environment.
• Works as part of a team, as well as complete assignments independently.
• Maintains a professional, compassionate and welcoming attitude toward managers, co-workers, residents, and visitors.
• Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be able to lift, carry, pull or push passenger weight from 100 to 250 pounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must possess a valid Class "D" Chauffeur's Driver's License.
• Minimum of (1) year professional driving experience
• Experience working with the elderly is desirable.

EDUCATION:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
