Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. is Hiring a Water Resources Engineer Near Rosemont, IL

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Applies principles, methods, and techniques of civil engineering as they relate to the analysis and design of drainage and storm water systems.
  • Assists with water resources projects including GIS database development and analysis, drainage calculations for input into hydrologic and hydraulic models and preliminary model development.
  • Learns and utilizes hydrologic and hydraulic models to perform simple analyses, gradually building to more complex models and analyses.
  • Writes technical summaries of work completed, which may include portions of technical memorandum, permit submittals or reports.
  • Continually learns and develops knowledge of storm water and floodplain requirements for various government agencies.
  • Performs reviews of calculations within storm water submittals on behalf of municipal or County entities, utilizing the storm water and floodplain requirements for the government agency.
  • Effectively communicates project status and timelines with supervisor and colleagues, on a daily and/or weekly basis via 1-on-1 conversations, emails, or team meetings.
  • May attend client meetings.
  • Continually improves and develops an understanding and familiarity with how project budgets are created and executed.
  • Works in an effective and efficient manner to assist in completing projects on time and under budget.
  • Builds knowledge of industry terms, processes and procedures through mentoring, self learning, and use of technology.
  • Follows the Department QA/QC process for all projects.
  • Organizes and maintains project files.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited curriculum or equivalent.
  • Engineer Intern (EI) Certification in the State of Illinois or other applicable states, or ability to attain within 12 months.
  • 0-4 years of experience with job-related work (full-time, part-time, internship).
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software applications including HECRAS, HEC-RAS, TR-20, SWMM, HY-8, Hydraflow or others.
  • Experience with GIS.
