POSITION OVERVIEWMcAuliffe seeks an excellent Teacher Leader to lead our World Language Department. This role includes both teaching and leadership responsibilities.As a Spanish Teacher, you will teach three sections of Spanish, implementing best practices in World Language instruction, and will either lead a crew (advisory) or teach a 2x / week enrichment class.As the World Language Team Lead, you will serve as the instructional leader of the school’s WL (Spanish & French) Department.The position reports to the Director of Teaching and Learning and leads the WL Team to ensure all scholars are engaged in high quality curriculum and instruction aligned with the school’s mission, vision, and goals. Roles & ResponsibilitiesLeadership of World Language Department & ProgramTogether with the Director of Teaching and Learning, establish a and maintain a common vision for the school’s WL program and curriculum; align vision with best practices in World Language instruction and the school’s Strategic Plan and Expeditionary Learning Core Practices; set long and short term goals, establish timeline, lead team to reach goals.Oversee and evaluate horizontal and vertical curriculum mapping, ensuring alignment to best practices in World Language instruction and EL curriculum practices.Lead WL Department meetings: set agendas, norms, roles, and outcomes, facilitate meetings, engage team in cooperative decision-making, clarifying type of decision.Coach 2-3 World Language teachers to grow in their instructional practice. This coaching includes weekly cycles of observation and feedback, and may also include strategies such as modeling or co-teaching lessons, Teaching ResponsibilitiesEmploy teaching methodologies that guide students to engage in language and cultural learning, including cooperative learning, use of protocols, simulations, workshops, hands-on projects, and game-playingImplement formative and summative assessments to assess student learning and track progress; engage students in the assessment and tracking process; Analyze data on student performance to effectively inform instructionProvide differentiated support including accommodations and modifications to ensure all students are able to meet standardsImplement school-wide positive behavioral systems to effectively manage the classroomContinually communicate with students families regarding performance and progressQUALIFICATIONS** Spanish teaching experience (ideally in grades 5 through 9) consistent with McAuliffe’s progressive, constructivist, exploratory and project-based educational philosophy** Knowledge of best practices in World Language instruction** Advanced Spanish language proficiency with relevant content area expertise (will be required to speak in the language during the interview process); Massachusetts educator license preferred ** Appreciation for the Expeditionary Learning (EL) design model -- commitment to develop curriculum and implement EL core practices** Appreciation for the life and mind of the adolescent scholar** Personal qualities that exemplify the school’s emphasis on character development and community** Strong interpersonal skills, commitment to teamwork, and readiness to reflect and grow**Experience leading and / or mentoring adult learnersAPPLICATION INSTRUCTIONSEmail your cover letter, resume or curriculum vitae, reference letters, and any other relevant materials that showcase your practice to nzupancic@mcauliffecharter.org with “Spanish Teacher / World Language Department Lead” in the subject line.The Christa McAuliffe Charter School (McAuliffe) may not and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, gender identity, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, homelessness or any other legally protected status.
