The Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) is an active member of the Choices Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and provides peer support services to consumers and families who have experienced an overdose or experience severe mental illness. Under supervision of the CERT Clinician, the Recovery Support Specialist functions as a role model to peers; exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serves as a consumer advocate, providing consumer information and peer support for consumers in outpatient and inpatient settings. The Recovery Support Specialist performs a wide range of tasks to assist peers of all ages, from young adult to old age, in regaining optimal functioning within the community and mastery over their own recovery process. Recovery resources such as booklets, pamphlets and other written materials will be utilized by the Recovery Support Specialist in the provision of services. The incumbent will support and uphold a commitment to racial and ethnic equity and antiracism.
The Choices Emergency Response Teams are responsible for 24/7 mobile emergency responses for youth and adults experiencing a mental health or opioid crisis in Dearborn, Ohio, Ripley, and Decatur counties. As a member of the CERT team, the Recovery Support Specialist is a part-time position, operating during client driven hours and on an on-call basis. The CERT teams operate from a strengths-based perspective, collaborating with first responders, community stakeholders, clinical leadership, care coordinators, and fellow mobile crisis responders. The CERT teams will work within a culture of crisis prevention, making every effort to ensure individuals are effectively stabilized within their home and community whenever possible. The CERT teams will ensure appropriate follow-up individuals who have experienced a crisis event and ensure linkage to ongoing supports and services, operating in an enhanced localized crisis response system contributing to the goal of increased community stabilization.
