Job Purpose or Objective(s): You will be a member of a Wildland Fire Module. You will assist with hazardous fuel reduction projects and wildland fire suppression. You will report to the Wildland Fire Superintendent.
Payrate: $17.55 per hour | Hourly, Full Time | Schedule and Hours: 7:30am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday with Saturday and Sunday OFF | Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.| WEEKLY EARNED WAGE ACCESS IS AN OPTION FOR THIS POSITION | This position will require extensive travel, and will be housed in McAlester, OK. |
Primary Tasks:
1. Participate in fire and safety training in the techniques, practices, and methods of fire suppression and in the safe, efficient operation and use of tools, equipment and vehicles used in fire line activities. Participate in module/crew proficiency checks and drills. Participate in safety sessions and fire critiques. Ensure own and others' welfare and safety.
2. Perform assignments as a wildland firefighter in developing a working knowledge of safety rules, basic fire behavior, fire suppression and fuels management techniques, practices, and terminology. The work may consist of fire line construction, the use of pumps and engines, and hose lays using appropriate nozzles and adjustments resulting in the use of water and additives. Searches out and extinguishes burning materials by moving dirt, applying water by hose or backpack pump.
3. Perform project work such as fuel inventory, fire line construction, hazard tree removal, prescribed burn implementation.
4. Ensure equipment and tools are maintained and ready for service.
5. Maintain arduous qualifications by completing the Work Capacity Test.
6. May perform front line firefighting responsibilities
7. Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
