Job Description:


Job Summary:

The Security Officer will protect people and property from possible criminal activity.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Job Classification: Part time, call when needed

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Patrols and monitors an assigned area; reports suspicious activities to local authorities.
  • Monitors surveillance cameras, inspects property, and monitors crowds.
  • Contacts law enforcement or fire department in case of an emergency.
  • After business hours, checks doors, windows, and gates to ensure the property is secure.
  • Investigates reports of suspicious activity on the property.
  • Reasonably detains persons suspected of criminal activity until law enforcement arrives.
  • Escorts discharged staff, trespassers, and other unwelcome parties off the premises.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Security Officers will report on time, in uniform at all times while on duty, oriented to security duties, properly instructed, supervised and with completed background checks. Uniform must be clean and neatly pressed. 9.5. The Security Officer shall at no time leave the designated premises while on assigned duty without an approved replacement being present.
  • Shall make rounds of the premises randomly.
  • When not conducting rounds of the premises, the Security Officer will remain at the designated security station located in the office lobby area.
  • The Security Officer will notify the Client authorized representative should it become necessary to leave the security station for reasons other than conducting rounds or responding to a security emergency.
  • The Security Officer shall patrol the parking area and/or control parking on facilities as requested by Client authorized representative or Designee.
  • The Security Officer shall address any person who is continuously loud or boisterous in an office to refrain from such action or escort those individuals from the premises. In the event of a conflict between an employee of the Texas Client and a visitor, the Security Officer shall make his presence known and render assistance to include contacting the authorities.
  • No Security Officer shall perform office work or any other work pertaining to the Texas Client other than those services for which the Security Officer has been contracted to perform.
  • The Security Officer at each office is to familiarize themselves with all emergency phone numbers.
  • The Security Officer at the building site will report to the Client authorized representative or Designee appointed for the building.
  • The Security Officer shall submit reports (sign-in sheets) of hours on duty by the end of each business day.
  • The Security Officer will check all interior areas of leased space before going off duty to ascertain if any staff and/or clients remain in the building. The Officer will then check all exterior doors to be sure the building is locked and secure. If an Officer's shift is completed prior to the office closing, the Officer will check all areas before leaving the premises and report any areas of concern to the Client authorized representative.
  • In the event of a security incident, the Security Officer shall complete and submit to the Client authorized representative, a Security Incident Report. The report shall be a comprehensive accurate account of details relative to the reported incident.
  • The Security Officer must be thoroughly familiar with the operation and control of all building life safety systems such as but not limited to fire alarms, building life safety system, telephone system, and access and intrusion alarm systems.
  • The Security Officer will check identification of all persons entering and leaving the building during and after "normal” office hours. Any person without an employee identification badge must sign in and out and will be issued a visitor badge.
  • The Security Officer will be attentive at all times. Officers will, at a minimum, make eye contact with all visitors and staff. The Security Officer will not visit, make personal phone calls, read or otherwise be inattentive while on duty. The Security Officer, after informing appropriate staff, may take a fifteen (15) minute break during the first half of their shift and a fifteen (15) minute break during the last half of their shift. Officers will take breaks while on the premises, after notifying the authorized representative at location.
  • The Security Officer shall be available to escort employees to their cars if a security risk exists.
  • The Security Officer will make random rounds to insure the safety of personnel, vehicles and property in the parking areas of the building and as described elsewhere in this document.
  • The Security Officer may assist accessible staff and visitors when entering and exiting the building and when using the elevators, if needed.
  • The Security Officer will permit only authorized persons to enter into restricted areas of the premises.
  • The Security Officer will report any unusual incidents, hazardous conditions, or emergencies to the appropriate authority i.e. City Police Dept., City Fire Dept., and Client authorized representative.
  • The Security Officer will not engage in conversations with clients and/or employees and not give any policy/office procedures information to clients. The Security Officer will refer questions from clients to the receptionist.
  • Security Officers are to monitor and prevent Client property from being removed from the premises without proper authorization.
  • The Security Officer will limit telephone calls to emergency and official business use only. If using a state agency phone, collect and long distance calls are not permitted. Misuse of state agency phones could lead to termination of the contract. Use of state agency computers, copiers or any other state owned equipment is not permitted. Officers will not occupy a private office with agency facilities or engage in lengthy personal conversations or other activities other than that of providing continuous security services as specified herein.
  • All Security Officers shall be thoroughly familiar with Client building security. Special attention shall be directed to the procedures for after hours building access and emergency procedures for fires and bomb threats, including the Office Emergency Action Plan (OEAP). Officers will become familiar with all emergency phone numbers and facility evacuation plans.
  • The Security Officer will prevent employees and visitors of Client from harassment, incursion, or any criminal activity by unauthorized persons while on Client premises.
  • The Security Officer will be able to communicate in English and Spanish clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • The Security Officer will prepare and provide a written report for any atypical incidents or suspicious activity. The report should include the following:
  • Date and time of incident.
  • Individual(s) involved, including a description of the individual(s).
  • Written summary of the event to include what transpired and any actions taken by the Officer.
  • Signed by the Officer.
  • The Security Officer will not be asked to perform duties other than that of providing Officer service. The Security Officer will submit a daily report of on-duty hours to the Client authorized representative. Sign-in sheets will be furnished by the agency. Sign-in sheet will be signed by the Security Officer and Client authorized representative at the end of each business day. Client authorized representatives will provide sign-in sheets to Financial via mail or fax.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Authoritative verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to learn the layout of the property and buildings.
  • Must have one (1) to two (2) years of documented experience in the security industry.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Security Officer training certification preferred.
  • Previous experience is a plus, but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to patrol the property and access areas quickly.
  • Physically able to capture and detain individuals if necessary.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and monitoring surveillance equipment.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.

Salary: $10.75-13.58 per hour

Pre-employment Requirements:

This position may be contingent upon passing a security clearance, background check, drug screen, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review, or credit check after acceptance of an offer and prior to beginning work, due to the nature of the services Chloeta provides.

Drug and Alcohol Testing:

To enforce Chloeta’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy, an employee or candidate could be subject to undergoing a drug screen and/or alcohol testing during or at the beginning of employment.

Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA):

Under the FCRA, Chloeta may request a credit check during the onboarding process. A written authorization form will be required before obtaining credit records.

Emergency Response:

Every Chloeta employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official Duty Station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official Position Description (PD). Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
