Job Description

Job Summary:

The Air Operations Branch Director (AOBD) supervises all air operation activities, prepares the air operations portion of the Incident Action Plan (IAP), implements its strategic aspects, and provides logistical support to aircraft operating on the incident. The AOBD reports to the Operations Section Chief (OSC) or Incident Commander (IC). The AOBD works in the Air Operations functional area. This position does not require relocation, but will need to be available for deployment nationwide.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • The AOBD supervises the Air Tactical Group Supervisor (ATGS) and the Air Support Group Supervisor (ASGS)

Job Classification: Part time, call when needed

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Follows the direction of the OSC or IC
  • Keeps Command informed of any potential problems or items of note
  • Models leadership values and principles. Provide positive influence. Emphasize teamwork.
  • Establishes and communicates objectives, priorities, work assignments, and performance expectations.
  • Obtains initial briefing from OSC.
  • Ensures pilot and aircraft capabilities meet mission objectives.
  • Coordinates with the assigned dispatch center regarding ordering and release of aircraft.
  • Evaluates the airspace surrounding the incident to identify airspace conflicts or impacts to air operations, such as military operating areas (MOA), military training routes (MTR), special-use airspace (SUA), visual flight rules (VFR) airways, or airports.
  • If necessary, conduct an aerial survey of incident operations airspace.
  • Determines hours of operational period for air operations.
  • Reports special incidents/accidents utilizing the SAFECOM system or other appropriate means. Arrange for an accident investigation team if warranted.
  • Resolves conflicts concerning non-incident aircraft.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of receiving and distribution required
  • Ability to team build and lead personnel required
  • Ability to compose and present comprehensive reports required

Education and Experience:

  • Successful completion if ICS 100, 200, 300, 700, and 800 is required
  • Completion of ICS-470 or NWCG S-470 is required
  • AOBD credential required
  • Incident response experience required
  • Prior experience serving as a AOBD preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged exposure to sitting or standing for long periods of time
  • Able to work up 12 to 16 hours per day
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
  • Must meet the physical requirements of the position up to and including 14 day deployments

Salary: $52.12 per hour

Pre-employment Requirements:

This position may be contingent upon passing a security clearance, background check, drug screen, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review, or credit check after acceptance of an offer and prior to beginning work, due to the nature of the services Chloeta provides.

Drug and Alcohol Testing:

To enforce Chloeta’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy, an employee or candidate could be subject to undergoing a drug screen and/or alcohol testing during or at the beginning of employment.

Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA):

Under the FCRA, Chloeta may request a credit check during the onboarding process. A written authorization form will be required before obtaining credit records.

Emergency Response:

Every Chloeta employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official Duty Station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official Position Description (PD). Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
