Childrens Outing Association is Hiring a STEM Specialist (Summer/Seasonal) Near Milwaukee, WI

Title: STEM Program Specialist

Reports to: STEM Program Coordinator

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Earnings: $17 - $20 per hour

This position is responsible for age-appropriate STEM program delivery to youth ages 4 to 18. During the summer, the position is Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Some Fridays and extended days are required and will be notified ahead of time, working 20 – 25 hours per week. Time frame and hours are flexible as the STEM schedule is site dependent. The position is for the summer with the opportunity to become year-round.

The position is not eligible for benefits however all COA staff have Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Retirement Plan benefits.

Main Job Responsibilities

  • Facilitate high quality program STEM programming that meet COA’s mission, philosophy, standards and goals
  • Record and analyze data from events, sessions, surveys, etc.
  • Plan and participate in STEM events such as the STEM expos, camp, field trips, and community outreach and nights
  • Manage youth behavior through positive reinforcement, redirection, and progressive discipline as per COA philosophy
  • Model appropriate behavior at all times
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned by STEM program coordinator

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School diploma/GED
  • Some college experience with science, technology, engineering, and/or math education
  • Must be at least 20 years old with valid Wisconsin driver’s license and an acceptable driving record and a mode of transportation to get to and transport materials site to site
  • Minimum of one year of experience running at least one structured activity for low-income, at-risk youth
  • Philosophical compatibility with COA youth work methods and strong youth management skills
  • Excellent verbal and good written communication skills
  • Patience, positive attitude, and cultural competency.
  • Must be computer literate: able to use Word to create, edit and format documents and flyers as well as Excel to enter in and manipulate data.
  • The physical requirements are the ability to sit and stand for long periods of time and the ability to move/run, i.e. to physically engage with the youth and actively participate in programming
