Salary Range: $15.75 - $15.75 Hourly

Department: Visitor Experience

Status: Seasonal/Part-Time/Non-Exempt

Reports to: Visitor Experience Manager & Playologist Supervisor

Compensation: Starting at $15.75 hourly

Seasonal Playologists are stationed on the museum floor to ensure a safe and engaging experience for children and their caregivers. This includes responding to visitor’s inquiries, following and enforcing all policies and procedures and promoting a museum environment that is experiential, participatory and interactive. Shifts, ranging from 16 to 28 hours per week, occur during weekday mornings and afternoons, weekends, and holidays as well as monthly First Friday evenings, as well as our extended member nights and evening events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engage visitors with high energy to share educational value of exhibits and museum’s mission
  • Assist with daily set-up and cleaning of exhibit spaces
  • Maintain current knowledge of museum exhibits, program content and safety protocol
  • Show a professional manner while working on the floor and running classes/programs
  • Facilitate Play while social distancing
  • Ability to effectively engage all visitors with different learning styles
  • Practical understanding of ages and stages of child development
  • Effectively implement museum policies and procedures
  • Greet field trips and explain museum manners
  • High level of comfort with public speaking specifically in the facilitation of Story Time, Pop Up Programs, and Living Labs,
  • Complete required Visitor Experience training
  • Attend museum wide All Staff Meetings
  • Create an EPIC visitor experience!
  • Facilitates Museum programming as assigned in our classrooms, KIDchen, Children’s Garden, Living Laboratory, and pop-up programs throughout the Museum
  • Maintains current knowledge of program content being delivered
  • Prepare and maintain materials and lessons for Museum programming
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet museum needs

Qualifications


Qualification/Requirements:

  • Experience working with children and families a plus
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Comfortable in large crowds
  • Must have a go with the flow attitude and a playful spirit
  • Highly respectful in speech, actions and demeanor
  • Experience working with diverse audiences and team mates.
  • Flexible availability with a minimum of 16 hours of availability including weekends and holidays
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must have access to internet to access schedule and email
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages desirable
  • Reliable transportation to and from work

Education/Training/Experience:

  • Minimum one year of working with children in some capacity
  • High school graduate or general education degree (GED) in progress / required

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods of time on the floor for up to 8 hours and must have good communication skills (i.e., communicate clearly and effectively). Must be able to see well and able to read fine print. Must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 25 pounds maintaining the museum and interacting with guests requires standing, walking, kneeling, crawling, and playing, stooping, bending, and crawling as well as carrying and/or lifting materials.

Environmental Requirements:

Must be able to work in a well-lighted, temperature-controlled work area. May also be exposed to extreme weather conditions with constant ambient noise levels. Must be able to work in open area with other employees. Employee must adhere to current company and CDC pandemic related guidelines.
