The Community Engagement Specialist promotes Children’s Home Society of Florida programs, needs and opportunities through educational and outreach activities and events, manages the regional volunteer process and opportunities, including recruitment, retention and stewardship of individuals and groups, and secures and coordinates community in-kind donations that will benefit CHS, its programs, and clients.

Overall, the Community Engagement Specialist contributes to the CHS high-performance culture by exhibiting our values and providing quality results that position CHS as the leader in delivering proactive behavioral health, case management, community and early childhood solutions for children and families.

Primary Job Functions

1. Raise awareness of CHS programs and needs through community education and outreach.

  • Develop and implement innovative strategies and tools that maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of community engagement programs and campaigns including but not limited to community education and outreach, in-kind giving, volunteer management, and advocacy.
  • Support donor and community partner cultivation through monetary and in-kind campaigns, volunteer activities, outreach and advocacy;

identify relationships that warrant further cultivation and involve other CHS team members when appropriate.

  • Raise community awareness of CHS through educational and outreach events and opportunities.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to engage organizations and businesses to increase support for CHS and its programs.

2. Recruit, screen, manage, retain, and steward volunteers to provide client and program support.

  • Recruit, select, screen, orient, train, retain and steward CHS volunteers.
  • Assist supervisory team members in assigning program volunteers.
  • Plan and facilitate volunteer projects and opportunities that will best support CHS programs and clients.
  • Coordinate special activities (such as volunteer recognition) or projects.
  • Develop and prepare educational materials for volunteer training.
  • Respond to questions and calls concerning volunteer opportunities with CHS.
  • Maintains up to date and accurate files, records of volunteers, and volunteer opportunities on CHS’ Volunteer Management System. VolunteerHub.
  • Using CHS’ Volunteer Management systems, maintain program statistics and prepare reports.
  • Support the data collection, reporting, grant writing and renewal processes for community engagement programs and campaigns
  • May assist Development Department with special events.

3. Lead in-kind giving efforts for the region

  • Work with regional and program leadership to advance the community engagement vision to secure critical items necessary for CHS programs.
  • Develop and implement strategies to help programs meet match requirements and provide needed resources to clients.
  • Develop partnerships with groups and individuals to participate in targeted in-kind drives and sponsoring for CHS.
  • Steward CHS in-kind donors within the region.
  • Coordinate donation drop-offs and pick-ups.

4. Contribute to a positive, engaging work environment.

  • Develop a strong knowledge base and stay current on job-related issues and trends.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings, training and education, as well as the quality process.
  • Comply with CHS’s code of conduct, policies, procedures and other obligations.
  • Assist with training other team members and providing back up when necessary.
  • Pick up projects on the fly; perform other duties as assigned from time to time.
  • Demonstrate the CHS Common Bond values in the performance of all job duties.

Job Qualifications

Education, Licenses & Certifications :

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Public Administration, Non-Profit Management, Business Administration or related field from an accredited university, preferred
  • Florida Driver's License within 30 days from hire with daily access to a reliable and inusred vehicle, required.

Experience :

  • Two years of related work experience, required.
  • One year social services experience, preferred.
  • One year experience working with community agencies, preferred.
  • Experience in VolunteerHub of other volunteer management systems, preferred.
