DescriptionActing as Peer Reviewer and Team Leader, the Senior Decision Support Analyst is responsible for overseeing the reporting of the Daily Executive Dashboard, developing routine and ad-hoc operational reporting, and performing complex financial analyses to help stakeholders make critical business decisions. This Senior Analyst will independently create data solutions to support business goals of the department and/or organization. It will also provide hospital administration, physicians, government, and non-government entities with data and key metrics. This position will oversee and conduct analysis of large operational datasets from a variety of system applications, databases, and data visualizations tools at the advanced level. It will involve query writing and data extraction from many sources using MS Excel, MS Access, MS Visual Studio, SQL Server Management, or other query language while normalizing and maintaining database schema and structures. This Senior Analyst will also oversee the ETL (extraction, transformation, and loading) processes between source and downstream patient and financial systems while ensuring data integrity and compliance based on data security standards. This position will also support the Decision Support Manager/Director in guiding and directing activities of the other Decision Support Analysts to ensure the efficient execution of their duties.
QualificationsMinimum Education
Bachelor's Degree Finance, Accounting, Health Care Administration or other Business related field. (Required)
Master's Degree Master's Degree or Advanced Certification in Finance, Accounting, Health Care Administration or another business-related field preferred. (Preferred)
Minimum Work Experience
7 years Related experience in health care decision support, operational or business analytics, finance (including general accounting) and/or patient accounting required. Health care business operations, hospital/physician information systems, and database/data warehouse management specific to the following applications or tools is preferred: Allscripts, Epic, Cerner Millennium, Syntellis Performance Analytics, Business Objects, PeopleSoft G/L, Tableau, MS Access, SQL Server, and Visual Studio. (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge
Have proven analytical skills including the ability to communicate recommendations based on data analyses and research.
Possess intermediate to advanced PC skills including the proficiency in using MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, SQL, SQL Server Management, MS Visual Studio, and other query language tools to conduct advanced data mining.
Have clear understanding of Information Technology business and decision support systems, general ledger management and reconciliation, and data warehousing.
Have experience in maintaining large databases by performing ETL (extraction, transformation, and loading) processes, system audits, and normalization.
Experience with reporting healthcare statistics and key metrics to leadership, physicians, government and non-government entities.
Have exceptional attention to detail while being flexible - handling multiple tasks, prioritizing the ever-changing workload in support of timely departmental or organizational goals.
Must have problem-solving skills while being self-motivated and proactive.
Ability to support the Decision Support Manager/Director as team lead.
Functional Accountabilities
Financial Analysis
  • At the advanced level, develop complex analyses using the Decision Support Systems and other tools such as SQL, MS Visual Studio, SQL Server Management Studio, MS Excel, MS Access, etc. to identify potential solutions to business needs.
  • Collaborate with team of analysts to collect, perform analyses, and validate all financial and clinical data that is required reporting to hospital associations (ex. AHA, DCHA, etc.), governmental entities (ex. D.C. Gov't, MD Gov't, U.S. Census Bureau, etc.), audit firms (ex. PwC), news organizations (ex. U.S. News and World Report, Child Health magazine, etc.), and Wall Street (Moodie's, Goldman Sachs Group, etc.).
  • Work with Decision Support Manager/Director and Executive Director of Decision Support to develop clear and well-structured processes for analytical plans to identify accurate outcomes or results.
  • Identify data integrity issues from source and downstream systems and communicate to key stakeholders' corrective action to improve quality of reporting.
Information Resources (Database ) Systems Management
  • Works under the Decision Support Manager/Director in performing or overseeing ETL (Extraction, transformation, & loading) processes between the patient source systems and the downstream Decision Support Analytical System.
  • Oversee the reconciliation and maintenance of the ETL process containing confidential employee payroll, patient, and general ledger data - serving as organizations subject matter expert.
  • Always protect the confidentiality of data within the Decision Support Systems and all other analytical databases and tools while ensuring use is done according to HIPAA.
  • Identify enhancements to reports produced by all Decision Support Systems and all other analytical databases and tools to facilitate continued performance improvement.
  • Play key role in system testing and data validation.
Program and Administration
  • Oversee and maintain accurate reporting of Daily Executive Dashboard of hospital and physician revenue and statistics and its distribution to all executive leadership and Department Directors/Managers.
  • Collaborate with upper management to evaluate current as well as new department and service-line initiatives for margin feasibility and cost.
  • Involve Executive Director of Decision Support and leadership to ensure accountability occurs across key stakeholder area; appropriately raise issues and challenges regarding data integrity across finance departments.
Training and Technical Support
  • Creates and maintains documentation relating to data management including procedural guides, report specifications, and data dictionaries.
  • May control and grant access to database and/or standard reports for team of Decision Support Analysts or other Analysts around the organization.
