Overview

The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health at Children’s Mercy Kansas City is recruiting a pediatric psychologist to work with the Weight Management Program and Center for Children’s Healthy Lifestyles & Nutrition. The psychologist’s role will include 1) providing targeted consultation and intervention in our interdisciplinary weight management clinics including specialized clinics for youth preparing for metabolic and bariatric surgery, those with special health care needs (e.g., genetic disorders of obesity, Autism, complex medical needs), and those with disordered eating patterns; 2) supporting the bariatric surgery program through completion of pre-surgical psychological evaluations and pre-and post-operative psychological support in clinic and in the hospital; and 3) collaborating with medical and psychology faculty on program development, quality improvement, and research initiatives related to the improvement of the quality of care delivered for youth with obesity.

This position includes teaching and supervising in the hospital’s pediatric medical and psychology training programs, including our APA-accredited psychology internship, and includes protected academic time for program development, research, advocacy, and other scholarly activities. The specific percentage of time dedicated to research, program development, and teaching/supervision will be established based on the specific position and the candidate’s interests and goals. This position carries an academic appointment at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, with rank commensurate to qualifications and experience.

Applicants must have:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in clinical psychology, pediatric psychology, or clinical child psychology
  • Completed an internship at an APA-accredited internship program
  • Relevant experience
  • Eligibility for licensure in Missouri and Kansas

The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health at Children’s Mercy is growing and expanding programs as part of the institution’s Mental and Behavioral Health Strategic Plan.
