A Brief Overview
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is hiring APPs to join the Pediatric Critical Care team. The team works across the Philadelphia and King of Prussia campuses staffing the 25-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in Philadelphia, 75-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in Philadelphia, and 10-bed PICU at the King of Prussia Hospital.
The PCU, housed within the critical care complex, cares for trach- and vent-dependent patients that vary in age from infant through young adult. The PICUs admit infants, children, and adolescents who are critically ill or injured. Patient diagnoses cover a broad range but commonly include acute respiratory failure, severe infection, poisoning, drug overdose, trauma, extensive surgery, congenital anomalies, and immunological disorders. The APPs work a rotating schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Providers who are new-to-practice will receive a robust 16-20 week training inclusive of clinical-, didactic-, and simulation-based education as part of the Advanced Practice Clinical Immersion Program.

In collaboration with an attending physician, the Hospital Provider Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the direct care and follow-up of a population of patients that matches his/her delineation of privileges and skill set. This care is delivered in defined inpatient and hospital-outpatient areas. The components of the role include clinical practice, consultation, professional development, education, and research.
The NPs in these roles may be required to have acute/critical care education and certification. The appropriate education/certification will be determined by the scope of the role in a particular practice area. The clinical portion of this role will require increased level of accountability including managing a cohort of high acuity patients. In addition to managing patient care, the NP may be required to utilize invasive interventions and procedures to promote physiologic stability. The role will also include off-shift responsibility. The off shift rotation schedule may include days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays and will be determined by the clinical needs of the practice environment.
