The Catalyst Transition Age Youth shelter program is funded by a governmental program. Continued employment is contingent upon continued receipt of those funds.

Description:

Provide guidance, training, coaching and mentoring to youth in day-to-day living and independence skills that include meal preparation, laundry training, housekeeping skills, education resources, job search and resume, and assisting youth with transition to independence case plans. Supervise youth onsite at TAY shelters with a mixed gender population. Be an active and positive member of the case management team. Active participation and assigned TAY program activities and meetings as required. Maintain a professional attitude with youth and co-workers, follow and enforce agency rules.

Job Qualifications:

  • A.A. or Human Services Certificate preferred or equivalent experience with youth ages 18 – 24.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of household skills and food preparation in a shelter setting
  • Skills and ability to engage and develop rapport with young adults who have various backgrounds, strengths and needs.
  • Skills and ability to provide consistency and behavioral limits through relationship-based interventions
  • Skills to communicate effectively with the ability to solve problems in a collaborative manner, communicate ideas clearly and persuasively
  • Skilled in organizing projects and workload
  • Able to enforce and follow Catalyst TAY shelter program policy and procedures
  • Ability to deal with multiple, competing demands
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries with youth/young adults
  • Communication/Language: Must demonstrate skills in communicating and positively relating to students, fellow employees, interns, contractors, and business contacts.
  • Must possess advanced ability to read, write and understand English equivalent to a college level
  • Computer Skills: Must have strong knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook. Specific skills in software systems as required by position
  • Knowledge of database applications used to enter data -HMIS, CCN Laptop, CHS database
  • Awareness and sensitivity to the cultures represented in San Joaquin County
  • Reliable transportation, valid California Driver License, proof of valid auto insurance, a DMV driving record printout with no more than two (2) minor violations and use own car for travel
  • Ability to lift supplies up to 25 lbs. to waist height
  • Fingerprint clearance required
  • Must pass a physical examination to demonstrate physical, mental and occupational competence to perform assigned tasks under guidance, supervision and direction of the supervisory staff
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must be a person who exercises good judgment and is emotionally mature, patient, flexible and calm with good communication skills

Essential Functions:

Specific duties depend upon shift being worked. Must be able to do the following:

  • Follow the Trauma Informed Care philosophy when supporting and addressing the needs of the children, youth and families served by CHS
  • Work closely with and maintain ongoing dialogue with the TAY Coordinator, Youth Services Program Manager, leadership team and training team for shelter, staff and client needs
  • Assist with development, implementation and evaluation of case plans for each youth to support housing stability and transition goals
  • Support and mentor youth enrolled in the program
  • Guide, train, coach, and mentor youth in day-to-day living skills including:
    • Meal planning and preparation, food shopping o Laundry, chores/housekeeping, hygiene
    • Computer use for case plan and transition planning goals o Medication Inventory o Visitor Requests and approvals o Youth’s time management
  • Encourage youth’s involvement in independent living skills programs and activities § Notify TAY Coordinator of maintenance, inventory or youth needs at residences (supplies, repairs)
  • Attend all required staff training
  • Attend staff and other meetings as required
  • Be professional with youth and co-workers
  • Enforce and follow TAY program rules
  • Paperwork and documentation completed in a timely manner as required
  • Must have an attitude of friendliness and be able to communicate with all levels within Children’s Home of Stockton
  • Must be reliable and consistent with attendance and punctuality to work
  • Other duties as assigned
