Job Description
Develops knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to pursue rational drug therapy during a 12-month program for residents primarily interested in pediatrics and some adult medicine. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
Experience

  • Doctor of Pharmacy
Education
  • Graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy
Certification Summary
  • Eligible for Georgia pharmacy license
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must participate in American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Resident Matching Program
  • Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment
Job Responsibilities
  • Takes responsibility for and prepares oneself for improving patient pharmaceutical care.
  • Uses processes to evaluate one's level of professional development and accomplishes learning needs required to provide pharmaceutical care.
  • Delivers effective education and training to patients, the public and healthcare professionals appropriate for the learning needs of the audience.
Provides quality patient care using a pharmacy practice methodology
Demonstrates competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, including N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult, and ALL = all ages.
  • Analyzes patient drug therapy to determine appropriateness of treatment regimen.
  • Specifies pharmacotherapeutic goals for patients and recommends regimens to prescribers and patients.
  • Identifies patient healthcare needs and identifies appropriate personnel to aid in managing these needs.
  • Documents all pharmaceutical care activities appropriately.
  • Evaluates outcomes of implementing patient pharmacotherapeutic regimens.
  • Ensures continuity of pharmaceutical care throughout patient care settings.
Provides quality patient care through participation in pharmacy systems
  • Prepares and dispenses medications using appropriate techniques and the healthcare setting's policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the assessment, management, and reporting of medication use evaluation, adverse drug reactions, and medication error reporting.
  • Participates in management of medical emergency codes.
  • Provides drug information and medication use education.
  • Participates in developing and evaluating medication use policies.
Develops practice management skills.
  • Resolves conflicts through negotiation.
  • Works through decision making structure to accomplish one's practice area goals.
  • Contributes to achievement of pharmacy goals via participation on an organization's committee.
  • Utilizes documentation to report pharmacy patient care outcomes.
  • Evaluates current pharmacy services to determine if services are meeting patient healthcare needs.
  • Assists in developing proposals for a new service.
  • Understands methods used to monitor and evaluate drug costs.
  • Assists in ensuring departmental compliance with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements.
  • Participates in development and implementation of pharmacy department policies and procedures.
  • Participates in departmental quality improvement.
